Celebrity Cruises, Do Not Go, save yourself money, time, aggravation, and preserve your health. There are much safer vacations. I lost two weeks, $1500, and have terrible memories, never again! I'd rather sit at home for a week and watch the grass grow, while holding $1500 in my hand than ever go on a cruise again!

I contracted a gastrointestinal virus while on board Celebrity's Mercury Ship in June (this virus is very common now on cruise ships, 1000's of passengers are becoming ill). I was confined to my cabin by security and forbidden to participate in any cruise activities or excursions (could not leave the ship or my 9'x12' cabin). I became very ill for 12 hrs, felt poor for a day, and had a severe headache for the following 10 days.

I've been on over 100 cruises and 100's of other vacations, and this is by far my worst vacation ever! The day I went into the ship's infirmary there were already 33 people ahead of me at that moment! After the cruise, Celebrity never called or followed up, never apologized nor offered any refund or compensation for the money lost, time lost, or illness I suffered. The only thing I am grateful for is that I left the ship alive (not all passengers are as fortunate).

In the past, all I had to worry about is catching the common cold, which is prevalent on cruise ships. Now, ship conditions are much worse. Take it from me, a veteran cruiser, save yourself a BIG headache (figuratively and literally), Do Not Cruise!

Like Montel said on his talk show today, "I'll never go on a cruise, even if they gave me a voucher to do so." My cruise with Celebrity was my worst vacation ever! But unlike others, I came back alive.

It has now been two months since I initially wrote, four months since my cruise. Here is the follow up: ...'Nothing'...Celebrity has still not replied to my many letters and phone calls. YES, they really Do Not Care!

Buyer (Cruiser) BEWARE!!!! Celebrity will take your money and guarantee Nothing in return! (except No Refunds, this is a guarantee).
Help! I need to reach out to more. Who can help me reach more people with this? People need to know before more lives are ruined.

Norovirus

You most likely contracted a Norovirus which, unfortunately, are very common on cruise ships. They are not the fault of the cruise line or staff but, usually, fellow passengers. Many passengers are afraid to report that they are ill because they don't want to be quarantined as you were. So, they just treat the symptoms with Pepto or something and go around like "Typhoid Mary" spreading the virus all over the ship. The virus is spread through poor hygiene, ie: not washing your hands. I realize your are upset over being quarantined but would you have rather spread the virus to even more passengers?

Many people think the virus originates with the crew because many of them are from developing nations. That is just not true. The crew does everything they can to avoid this virus and practice proper sanitation because it is just so much more work for them when there is an outbreak. Once a certain precentage of passengers and/or crew are ill, a "code red" takes effect. All public areas are washed daily with bleach, self serve in the buffet is stopped and crew must serve each dish. There are other additional precautions taken also.

I'm sorry you took ill and understand how you must feel but I don't think the cruise line is going to offer you any compensation. Have you tried writing to them and explaining why you feel you are entitled to compensation in a calm and rational manner? It may help but, I warn you, in most cases compensation is offered in the form of a "certain amount off" on a future cruise. You seem so angry at Celebrity, I don't think you would feel this was adeguate.
