In Jan 2005 I tried the new GSM plan from Cell One. I was told my bill would not change much (it went from 50-60 dollars per month to well over 100). I was charged $50 each for my two V180 phones which was a total ripoff because you could not hear anything nor pick up a signal with these phones.

I was later told by a rep that these phones were promotional but weren't any good. They just pushed them because most people wanted a cheap phone with their new plans. I did receive a credit onto my account as promised for the phones.

After talking to numerous customer service representatives at the local store and finally refusing to pay my bill, I was transferred to the "Loyalty Department". They told me I was allowed to switch back to Digital and even asked who told me I could not use Digital anymore. Switching back caused me to add even more months to the new GSM contract I had just signed but it was worth it.

In October 2005, I had to go to GSM once again because the Digital plan is indeed being phased out and suddenly one day I had very little service in areas I normally had full bars.

I couldn't afford to buy out the rest of my contact since after once again switching back to GSM, I began a new 2 year contract. They really stick it to you for switching back and forth between Digital and GSM. You can't switch without adding a new contract of 2 years.

My first bill must have had charges on it for calls to the moon it was so high. When I called to question it, I was handed to several different reps until I finally gave up and just paid the darn thing. They even cut off my service when my bill was only 3 days late! I called the Financial Department to say their billing statement said I had several days until service interruption then they informed me they had the right to cut off my service at any time without any warning or reason. HUH?

Since I had so much time on this new contract, I added a partner line for my son as a Christmas gift one month after switching back to GSM. Guess what? He has a completely different 2 year contract that means I have to pay an extra two months service when my original lines contract is up. Good grief! I can't wait to see what my bill looks like next month.

Oh by the way, if they say "you can get Signal Link for a 30 day trial" free. Make sure they remove it from you plan before the 30 days are up. I had $19.99 assessed to both my original phones lines on my first bill after switching to back to GSM. That shot my bill through the roof!

They also have a nasty habit of putting roadside assistance and insurance on your phones whether you want it or not. Watch that carefully on your bill!

So my best advice, is to stay calm and stick to your guns! If you have questions, keep calling and talking to the department you need. Write down names, dates, times and extension numbers. It is the only way you can win. I cannot wait until my contact is up so I can switch to a more reliable, honest company!

To be truthful, I am pretty happy with my local store. It is the corporate financial offices that cause me problems...

Ms. Deana,

I apologize that you had problems with your motorola v180's. I wanted to post this about the digital towers being phased out. Eventually in the future we will not have digital towers. As of right now we have not touched/removed any of the digital towers. They are all still up. We can not remove them until we know 100% no one is using them anymore which of course could be another 2-4 years because there are still customers with a contract on digital and until they cancel or migrate over we can not touch them...but we are not going to improve it as we are trying to go to 1 system and that is gsm. It could have been your digital phone that you were using that went bad and thats why you probably did not have service. We are working every single day to improve our GSM service but of course it can't be 100 % perfect in 1 day it takes time. We are adding towers, putting amps on towers so you can go further away from a tower and have good signal and it reduces drop calls and saves battery life, we have towers on wheels for emergencies. So to recap we are improving our gsm service and I hope you decide to stay with us.
