Chipman relocations, Keep it Moving Chipman Relocation totalled my son's truck by hiring our subcontractors and refusing to take responsibility Alameda Nationwide

Chipman is a shady moving company.  My son was in the far right lane at a 4-way intersection, getting ready to turn right, as many cars ahead and behind him were doing.  Suddenly, out of the blue, a massive semi truck slammed into the side of his pickup truck. 

The driver didn’t even bother to look before turning right from the middle of the lane!  The driver identified himself to the police as being associated with the Chipman moving company so we took Chipman to Small Claims court and Mr. Chipman wiggled out of the charges by claiming his firm is not responsible for totaling my son’s truck because he sub-contracted out this particular job to another mover.   

It turns out these larger moving companies commonly do this so you have no idea who they end up hiring to move your stuff.  The Judge dismissed the case based on this and Chipman didn’t have the integrity to make his insurance company (called “Vanliner) cover the accident.  He instead pawned off responsibility to a subcontractor.   

It turned out that Chapman sub-contracted out a one-man company based in San Diego called “Keep it Moving,” headed by Josh Bernstein and Bernstein hired out a 76 year old driver whom I discovered was illegally driving, since he had not updated a vision report as required by the California DMV.  No wonder he didn’t see my son. 

So I then took Bernstein to court in what should have been a slam dunk case, but the judge, who I think was drunk, ignored the DVM codes, did not care the driver was illegally driving, and actually mocked the computer generated police report, which clearly stated the moving truck turned right from a position that was NOT the far right position.  Incredible.   

Despite incompetent judges, however, we consumers still have the right to disseminate information about shady operators like these guys.   I would stay away from the Chipman or from the Keep it Moving company.
