Wednesday, February 7th 2007 9:00am The sign outside the Citgo Gas Station on 78th Ave. in Pinellas Park, FL advertised 2.09/gallon. After I began pumping my gas I noticed that the price on the pump said I was actually paying 2.13/gallon. I was not given the option to print a receipt for my purchase and did not receive one. I went into the store to address the issue and the man at the cash register who I think is the owner, was extremely rude to me and when I told him I was going to file a complaint and report him he began making nasty and rude hand gestures and comments towards me.

I contacted the Pinellas Park police department and they referred me to the News Channel 8 On Your Side Consumer Reporting website, They agreed with me and said it is illegal to advertise one price and charge another but they did not have the phone number for the government regulations agency. I emailed the news station and thought it would be a good idea to file a rip off report so other people will know that this company does Bad Business!

Here In Town

They change the sign on the street before they change the price at the pump. Usually it means they're gonna raise the price. Last time the price on the sign was 5 cents higher then the price at the pump. By the way, how much gas did you pump in your vehicle?

Not illegal the way you see it

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

It is illegal if the PUMP says the price is $2.099/gallon, yet charges you more. It is not illegal for the sign to state one price, and the pump to read another.

As long as the pump price is the same as you are charged, there has been no crime committed. It may be unethical, but it is not illegal. More than likely, the pumps were changed that morning, but the sign was not. The pumps can be reset at the counter inside the store. The sign requires effort. It also requires another person to be present.
