I have a major issue with Clarksville Gas and Water. I looked my bill up online on 4/6 because I knew it was past due. I wanted to make sure I made a payment before my services were cut off.
When I looked up my bill online the only date that showed was a "Due date April 27, 2012". That led me to believe I had until that day to pay it in full. My service was cut off on 4/10. The company charged me a reconnection fee of $50.00 to have the service turned back on within 2 to 3 hours.
The other issue I have is the fact that I just sent them an $80.00 payment on 3/9. Just one day after a month since I made my last payment they turn my service off. I just think they are trying to profit on reconnection fees.

I agree... they do use predatory reconnect fees to profit

It happened to me. My bill was paid on the morning of the cutoff date at 9:18 am and I have the receipt. I paid more than was due in order to have a credit the following month. THREE days LATER they shut my water off. Even with solid proof it was paid, they told me too bad... the water was off and so Ihad to pay the reconnect fee. I intend to write a letter and send proof (reciept date and time stamped) to the city counsel, but we all know that's going to be useless. And justFYI...they do charge a deposit when you first activate service, even if you have a letter of credit from another utility. Furthermore, the deposit far exceeds the amount of a monthly bill, which averages around $30/month. Lesson learned? Pay well in advance of the final due date and keep you're receipts. Otherwise, you are going to get screwed by them.

Really?

So you knew you were already late, and you apparently not only were able to pay your past due but an extra $50 on 4/10 to get your power back on. So if you had the money why didn't you just pay it?
While we do not see your bill or anything else you probably got. I can just about guarantee you that the 4/27 due date was for your CURRENT amount. There was probably a section on that bill that gave you a past due amount and a different due date as well as a notice you will be subject to disconnection. I would even bet that you got a separate disconnection notice.
But this is probably your best line...
I just think they are trying to profit on reconnection fees.
- Let's see did they force you to be late(for what looks like at least a couple of months). Did they tell you that even though you apparently had the ability to pay, to not make the payment? Of course not. Just be lucky that they haven't required a deposit, but if they do I am sure you will somehow think that they are profiting from that as well.
By the way if you didn't pay your full bill already you better do it by 4/27 or you probably will run into the same issue.
