100% FRAUDS! They’ll lie to your face and literally steal your money. In an effort to be completely transparent (a virtue lost with Clayton Homes) and in hopes to save someone else the devastation of being robbed as we have been, I’ve included our actual sales and financing numbers with this review. I urge you, even if you have already purchased a home from Clayton Homes, please review your financing documents, ask for and go over your invoices because they will literally steal your money right from under you without batting an eye.

We made the agreement with our salesman, Paul (who, by the way, is definitely your guy if you enjoy dealing with the stereotypical used-car salesman, crook of a personality), that we were financing our home plus land improvements (utilities), period. He even specifically said our closing costs were ZERO; however, being the sleazy liar that he is, he actually chose to throw in nearly $4,500 extra into our loan that we were NEVER told about and we only noticed at closing.

You may ask, why then did we continue with signing the documents? The first and most obvious answer is we were too trusting, and secondly, because the scumbag of a manager, Patrick, lied to our faces and assured us that not only would any penny over what we would wind up using for utilities be returned to us, but also that good, old can’t look you in the eyes if you have b***s, Paul, would provide an actual breakdown of all costs. What a joke that turned out to be!

Patrick himself also told us that the fees associated with closing (shown as 'prepaid finance charges’ on our agreement) was "the amount Clayton Homes is paying for you to purchase your home.” After closing we immediately drove back to the lot and asked Paul for this so-called breakdown of costs. We were given a handwritten post-it note. I can’t even make this stuff up!

Upon further questioning, Paul added hash marks to the amount he added to the cost of our home, which ironically still did not include the closing costs, and even started to do the math on the side of the paper writing 84+15, then buckled under pressure when he realized it didn’t add up and told us we just had to follow up with the lender, Vanderbilt, at that point because it was out of his hands. How is the number YOU came up with and personally submitted to Vanderbilt unexplainable and out of your hands?

As you will see in the numbers below, the overage amount is actually in excess of the bank fees that we were lied to about in the first place. Isn’t it funny that a portion of this amount wasn’t questioned as being ours because nobody could explain why it was added in the first place? Shouldn’t the salesman who added it in to our loan amount be questioned and held liable for that unaccountable sum? How many other families have they stolen from without being caught?

The lesson here is, unless you watch like a hawk, they will literally rob you blind. Here’s what we have: Base Price/Amount Submitted from Clayton Homes to Vanderbilt for financing: $103,480.40 Agreeed Upon Home Price (including delivery, set, tie-down, leveling, front and back steps, AC, couches and metal skirting): $84,000.00 Improvement Invoices Paid to Date Electric: $1,192.66 Septic: $4,500.00 Water: $3,300.00 Footers: $3,750.00 Termite Protection Service: $229.95 Storm Shelter: $3,100.00 Amount left over that Clayton Homes is refusing to release: $3,407.79 $103,480.40 -$84,000.00 -$1,192.66 -$4,500.00 -$3,300.00 -$3,750.00 -$229.95 -$3,100.00 ______________ $3,407.79.

We have given them ample time and opportunity to make this right before choosing to submit a review, but needless to say, here we are almost 4 months later and they still refuse to give us access to the rest of OUR money.
