In mid-July 2009, after securing a number of moving company estimates, I chose C.M.S. Moving and Storage of Union, NJ to move my household from RI to FL.  Based on the inventory done by another insurance company, C.M.S. gave me a quote of $2500.  Knowing this would rise, I budgeted $4000 for the move.

When the movers showed  up, some items remained to be packed.  They graciously offered to help.  Again I assumed a fee and budgeted another $1000 for additional packing.  The moving 'foreman' could not give me a total until the truck was mostly full.  The movers literally threw the remaining items to be packed in the largest boxes they could find.  In some cases, they packed boxes that had already been packed into larger boxes (more room in the truck, more $$$).  When we finally got the cost, it was over $10,000.  In hindsight, I should have pushed back and told them to unpack the truck and negotiated but the stress of the move got the best of me and we signed.

We were told the truck would arrive on Tuesday.  No truck, no call on Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday.  After 3 phone calls to the office, the truck arrived on Friday.  Two moving men and a foreman unpacked the truck.  There was no time to check the boxes as they came in and because many of the boxes had been repacked, there was no way to know where they belonged.  200 boxes were left in my garage to be opened and moved by us.

Opening boxes was like Christmas, never quite knowing what we would find inside.  Items from different rooms were thrown together, items were broken, ruined, destroyed and missing.  I e-mailed my contact there daily for 10 days before he told me the 'claim dept' would be in touch with me.  Two weeks later, as more boxes are unpacked and more items broken or missing, still no response.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!!

Still waiting....

AUTHOR: bsdaly - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, December 04, 2009

'This Customer' is still waiting for a phone call about her damaged items.  I was charged over $800 in additional insurance and can't get a call back?  If by being treated with respect the owner means his driver's didn't spit at me, he'd be correct.  This company shows up with a Penske truck, not a C.M.S. truck.  The movers are all ad hoc employees.  They will charge by square footage rather than weight.  If anything, my inventory went down as there were a number of items that we decided not to include in the move and I adjusted significantly for what have been a lowball estimate by the other company.  It's a fly by night operation.

I was lied to repeatedly and ignored after the money was in their pockets.  I wish I could turn back  the hands of time and be thousands of dollars richer.  I stand by my story.

This customer was treated with the utmost professionalism and courtesy throughout her experience with CMS. On the date of arrival for pick-up of this customer's inventory, there was a substantial descrepancy in the estimated amount of inventory and what was actually on-site at the time of the move. the customer's inventory had increased 3 fold (trippled in content).
