Show customers why they should trust your business over your competitors...

I have been contacted by extremely unprofessional and rude people from Pentagroup Collectin Angency/Collect America since September of 2008.

They called and harrassed me, my mother-in-law, and my employer. I requested they take off the phone numbers for my mother-in-law and my employer and to only contact me at my personal phone number.

Two months later in February they called every number.

The last woman I spoke to, last name I believe is Jason was extremely pushy and overbearing. She would not even let me speak.

She said I owed $2600.00 for a debt they bought from Alliance Cross Sale. I have never heard of this company nor have I done business with them.

She then stated at 12:00 noon today 2-27-2009 that her company Collect America would start sueing me for the debt. She state the attorneys fees would be another $4800.00.

I told her I had requested information on the debt in writing back in September of 2008 and requested it everytime someone called. They information had been sent out, and they have my correct address, but I never recieved it. Some of the agents said they would not send the information in writing. That I should just believe what they were telling me.

I told them that I could not pay for something that I was not for sure was my debt and that I would not give them information over the phone.

She said it was completely safe. She said our call was recorded. That I would not be charged a check fee. That it would not go to the bank until I received a confirmation letter in the mail.

Then she told me she spoke to my mother-in-law, Carol Bench and that she was a very sweet lady and that they had a very nice conversation. I told her that it was against the law to talk to other people about debts. She stated "hold on young lady dont you dare make assumptions about what we talked about." "We didnt even talk about you."

I became upset and said, "Send the information to me at my address that you have on file then we can discuss the matter after I have reviewed it." She stated I cant do that. I said then I guess you will have to sue me. She stated "Your wish is my command." "We will start the suit at 12:00 noon today."

I am beside myself with what to do. She even told me if I paid her off that my credit score would go up 150 points with every consumer credit reporting agency.

What can I do? Please help me? I will loose my job if they don't stop calling me at work and in this economy I will be hard pressed to find another job.

Thank you

Just pay it.

AUTHOR: Jimhenry - (U.S.A.)

I used to work for Pentagroup Financial..
Just ask for a manager next time you call... Call from a blocked number so the collector doesn't see your calling.. (be nice or they'll hang up on me.. people call complaining about wrong numbers all the time and the last thing people want to hear is "LET ME SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!!!"

Explain to the manager than you want to get this resolved and give him/her a FAX NUMBER... They'll send you a fax showing what you owe. Tell them you want to pay in payments... DON'T settle the account! that doesn't help your credit report.. just pay it off but be prepared to spend a lot of money each month..

or get a loan to consolidate your debt... pay off collect america and pay a small monthly payment to your bank...

they can call your work if you don't tell them not to.... send a certified letter in the mail requesting that they don't call your employer... but if you do that.. they'll send it to another collection agency and they'll call your place of employment.. vicious circle.. just pay your debt and they won't bother you!!!

also.. the company isn't a ripoff.. they're a fortune 500 company..

and the collectors aren't paid to give customer service.. they're debt collectors... don't be shocked by "rudeness" you owe them money.. it's business. you're not a customer anymore. you're a debtor.. sorry friend.. i just have to let you know what goes through the mind of a collector.

If you are sure that this is not your debt:

Step One:

Send them a letter via Certified Mail + Return Receipt stating:

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I am requesting that you cease all verbal communications with me about this alleged debt until you provide me with written validation that this is my debt.

Per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, cease all phone calls to my place of employment and to 3rd parties.

This letter is being time stamped via Certified Mail and I can confirm receipt. I will pursue each subsequent phone call from your office with a $1,000 per incident penalty for Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violations.

Step Two:

Next time they call, read the following statement:

Pursuant to [your state] state law, this is to inform you that this phone call is being recorded. If you do not consent to being recorded, you need to terminate this call. Pursuant to [your state] state law, continuation of this phone call after officially being informed that it is being recorded implies consent to be recorded. This recording will be used to pursue Fair Debt Collection Practice Act violations in a court of law.

It is against the law for them to call you at work

AUTHOR: Steph - (U.S.A.)

Tell them its against the law for them to call you at work the next time they call tell them what I told you and threaten to report them to the BBB or Fair Debt practices. I would also tell them they have no right to call you at work and harass you .When a debt collector asks me for my work# I refuse to give it. You might want your boss to tell them not to call
