Our son was looking to attend Lincoln Tech, in Columbia, MD and because we live four hours away Lincoln Tech referred us to Collegiate Housing Services. After we took a tour of their housing we were told to go on-line and fill out the application because we were told they could process it faster that way. We filled out the form, paid the $50.00 non-refundable application fee, paid the $250.00 deposit and waited for them to take possession of an unavailable unit. A few days later we received the hard copy of the application.

When we looked it over they had added an additional $250.00 deposit, plus the first months rent and furniture cleaning fees on new furniture. When we called to question them on the additional charges we were informed that this was their policy and we had to pay them. They were rude and argumentative, so we decided to talk to Lincoln Tech who referred these people to us. Lincoln Tech said there was nothing they could do.

Our son concequently decided not to attend Lincoln and we requested our deposit back, at that point we were told that when we filled out the on-line application and initialed the form we had thirty days prior to our son moving into the appartment to submit in writing a request to get our deposit back. We didn't have thirty days between the school start date and Collegiate taking possession of the unit.

Needless to say Collegiate has stolen $300.00 from us and not just us, a young friend of ours as well. Please do not fill out the on-line application with this company because once you do, you are bound by them. They get really ugly really quick. The bad thing is we never actually sign a lease with them. Stay away from Collegiate Housing Services, this company can not be trusted. Everything on the contract is worded in their favor. They will scam you!

This company preys on unsuspecting students and parents.  Your story is one of many that I have found online when I began searching to see if others had experiences similar to ours. We are currently fighting with CHS regarding fees after we chose to move our son from their housing due to a concern for his safety and well being.

Please feel free to tell your story on the FB page Collegiate Housing Services Complaints. I can only hope that as more people share their stories a lawyer will take a legal stand and file a class action suit against this company If not perhaps together we can save others from suffering the same fate.
