You will get no help from Aspire if you are a victim of identity theft. Take the case of my daughter..just starting out after graduating college and getting her first job. She was a victim of identity theft... an Aspire account was opened in her name and charges were incurred. After receiving bills from a credit card she never applied for, my daughter proceeded to contact cust svc to resolve...after the requested affidavits were sent to Aspire and the required police report was filed, my daughter anticipated that this matter would be resolved quickly and not impact her credit. Not so!

After numerous calls to their call center, the abuse and mistrust started...even with a police report, the bills kept coming and growing at 35% interest and late charges of $35 per month. Svc reps kept calling and returned calls were met with arrogance and insuations that she was lying. She was asked again to file another affidavit..did they lose the first one? Let their games begin..this is their M.O.; deny, deny..the consumer is always wrong!

A check of her credit report noted an Aspire account was closed due to bad debt, yet the escalating bills kept coming from Aspire as if it were still open. No one investigated the identity theft issue, no one bothered to rely on her affivadit and the police report...much more profitable to keep this compounding problem alive for them at a 35% interest rate on a bogus balance.
One can only assume from these events that Aspire, aka CompuCredit assumes that everyone is a liar or a scam artist....a little too close to home?...Maybe the company assumes all consumers are as deceptive as them.
They are expert at marketing to and enticing the un-initiated, the credit-challenged and identity thieves..that's why their market target is the "under-served" consumer (as stated on their website).

Attorneys will be contacted to resolve this..after all NY's Atty General did so and won a victory...contact your Attorney General..this company needs to come to the table and face the music....check the Web for other violations related to this company. Search articles related to CompuCredit.(Fortune article on skeptical accounting practices, etc.).this has been going on far too long.

P.S. The recent events and stock impact on sub-prime lenders can only mean more trouble for CompuCredit..expect more aggressive collection actions and mistreatment in the near future.
