I don't even know where to begin, all I know is Fingerhut is trying to say that I purchased some items from them in 1997 (have NO idea what). But I have a collection agency that has put a "freeze" on my bank accounts.
I called the collection agency Rubin & Rothman and the woman is not able to give me any info on Fingerhut, she just keeps saying she is the "Middle person". She will not give me any other information but to go on the website.
I was forced into doing a "quick collect" Western Union for $400, two days later I was told I have to pay $150 for 4 months at which time I will either have to pay the balance in full or divide the balance into two payments. For what? I have not ordered anything from them, I got a Credit Report to see what was going on and the report says three differnt dates.12-01, 03-07 and 04-07.
When I called Fingerhut I spoke to a woman by the name of "Sheena" that is all she would give me and she explained that the "REAL" Fingerhut has shut down in 2002 and they who ever "they" is bought the name. She said the company was now Compucredit and they only have a fax number and a P.O. Box they have no number or "physical" person I can speak with.
In the mean time the collection agency has given me until 03-24 to show that I am trying to correct this situation or else they will put ANOTHER freeze on my account until I make the appropriate payments. I am in the process of contacting the BBB and the Attorney Generals office.
This is BS and they should not be allowed to do this to anyone, I mean come on, from 1997, are you kidding me? They got some nerve, this is not my bill to pay and I will FIGHT this to the bitter end.

1st off I have to say in my opinion, for any company that can call you to collect money from you should by rights of the consumer for any purpose, should have a number to contact that company, wether it be 6 months down the line , or 6 years! If in fact if money is owed and for what ever reason the consumer could not make a payment as arranged or agreed upon then they should be able to call and express a problem and make other arrangements to work it out. So the consumer is not all at fault. This defies the right of a consumer, not being able to contact the creditor!
Amazing how money makes people forget how to be empathetic or respectful of other peoples feelings , or situation .
A good example is looking at the current economy, and job situations!
2nd just recently have had our phone number changed and the call history came up as Fingerhut. I tried calling the number and had trouble with getting through.
As many as 64 phone calls in one months time. Some days there were as many as 8 phone calls in the same day from them, and we have repeatedly told them that we are not the people they are looking for, this is a new number for us . They said they would take our number off of the call list but continued to call anyway. One man
outright called my husband a liar, was repulsively arrogant, and belligerent. I called Fingerhut Corp and told them the number from which we are receiving these calls and this phone number was in fact not one of theirs & got the same answer as Alana about Compucredit, no phone number to call them . They called yesterday again (64th time!) once more said they would take our number off of the list, and if again they don't? This is outright harrassment, and it is very annoying . I feel that if they felt they were in their rights to do what they do , then they would have no problem leaving a contact number giving others the right to make arrangements or in my case harassment complaint before it turns to a legal situation, and if they don't stop that is just what is going to happen. My phone record would back this up.

Yes...Fingerhut went out of business in 2002-Yes...CompuCredit is a collections agency, and Yes...Fingerhut Direct Marketing does not have access to former fingerhut accounts and information.
But, you did not say if you had attempted to contact CompuCredit. They had an operating phone number and assistants for 2 years after the former fingerhut went out of business. When there were no calls coming in for people to settle their accounts, they switched over to fax and p.o. box info only.
If you never had an account with the former Fingerhut, you could have disputed all claims. You could go to your local Credit Bureau for assistance and information. Also, the State of New York has a banking commision that works with clients to resolve credit issues. There is no reason that this issue should have escalated to the point of freezing bank accounts...this is an action that only the IRS and Law Enforcement have the ability to do....I think there's a lot here that isn't being said.
