Consumer Advocates Group is the worst kind of predator, they prey on those most at risk.
 
They contact home owners who have been sent a notice of default. They claim they can guarantee a loan modification to discharge the default and stay off a foreclosure.  They claim they have the experience and the contacts to make this happen in ninety (90) days.
 
They break state and federal laws by charging upfront fees of $2,500.00 which they are not legally allowed to collect in advance of performing their service successfully. However the most agregious act is that they do not do any work whatsoever.   In my case my lender GMAC indicated that CAG only contacted them once in July 2011 to notify GMAC that they were now acting on my behalf. They have had no further contact with GMAC since early July 2011, although they have been continually requesting that I provide them with additional information which I have willingly provided.  Moreover they communicate by website postings that they are diligently working on the process, when in reality they are doing absolutely nothing.
 
I had negotiated that I would pay their fees of $2,500.00 in two parts of $1,250.00 each the second payment was to be held until they completed their task successfully. They deposited both fees upon receipt and since July 2011 I have been requesting the return of the second payment of $1,250.00, they have completely ignored my requests.  However the most agregrious act is that I had to hire an attorney to assist in postponing the foreclosure. There was not enough time for the attorney to work this problem and my home is to be auctioned on 28 November 2011.  All along we believed that CAG was working on this issue so at this point the lender is unwilling to do anything to modify the loan except wanting their back due mortgage payments and 120% in fees and penalties.  I am a disabled veteran and my home is equipped for my special needs, moving would be a great burden at this point and would probably exacerbate my illness and disabilities.
 
Do NOT do business with CAG at all for any reason. For that matter do not use GMAC for your lending needs either.
