I have two current complaints against Corinthian Colleges. I personally attended Everest Institute in Grand Rapids and would not recommend this school.

On October 14th, 2008, a fraudulent loan application was submitted in my name for a private Sallie Mae Signature Loan. I did not apply for this loan, and had no knowledge of it, until I was notified via TrueCredit that a credit report had been pulled in my name. Upon contacting Sallie Mae regarding this issue, they were told by the Director of Finance that I personally walked into their offices that day and sat down at one of their computers and submitted the loan. This is impossible for three reasons. 1.) I was at a school function all day 2.) I know that I do not qualify for Sallie Mae's underwriting guidelines for a private loan and 3.) I would have had no reason to go into the financial aid office. I have high speed internet and two computers at home. I feel that both Sallie Mae and Everest Institute in Grand Rapids are trying to cover up a.) the illegal pull on my credit and b.) the fact that someone in that office has broken the law by illegally submitting an application in my name and refusing to confess to it.

Michigan State law states that under the Michigan Penal Code Act 328 of 1931 it is illegall for a financial institution to
1.) Prepare or submit an application for a loan or other extension of credit in another person's name without authorization from that person.
and that a person who violates this is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 4 years or a fine of not more than $2500, or both.

I have had to place credit freezes on all three credit bureaus and have filed complaints with the BBB of PA.

Sallie Mae is now refusing to speak with me further, and I am ready to file a small claims against them. I refuse to speak with Everest because of previously shady dealings in the financial aid office. I found it interesting that the main financial aid girl just up and quit in the middle of the semester with no warning. Coincidence? Naw........

Then we come now to tax time. I recently received by Form 1098-T in the mail and boy was it full of errors!
Corinthian Colleges claims that I paid them $22243.22 in total. Tuition payments and private loans. However, they don't mention the $100 in cash that I paid as a deposit that they threw into the loan itself, and they don't mention that the contract that I signed stated that tuition was $23690.00. Which means according to my records, somewhere they have failed to report $1446.78.

Semesters 1 and 2 are listed as $16114.71. Semester 3 is listed as $7575.29. Total coming to $23690.00.

So let's see.
I paid $100 cash up front for my deposit into my program.
I have one private loan for $9986.00
I have another private loan for $2294.00
Federal Loans for $8000.00
And another federal loan for $5355.

Which comes to a Grand Total of $25735.00
Now I understand that books were included in with that, so that weld be minus $1282.46.

But that still leaves me with $24452.54 owing towards tuition. So where has the rest of that money gone? Why do they claim that they only received $22243.00 for tuition from me? Clearly that's not the case, and now I am saddled with $25,735.00 in student loans.

Interesting isn't it? They tried to go after a private loan that I clearly didn't need, they reported false information to the IRS, and now I am stuck with the bill.

Great company!

They ARe a Rip off

AUTHOR: Michael - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 11, 2010

I felt that I was totally misled towards the end of the program when I could actually see the light. Everything that they had promised that was supposed to materialize towards the end of the programs never took place. Students were promised internships, career counseling, job placement and a change of life style. Out of a class of about 20 I dont know anyone who actually received any of this. I consulted with many of my classmates upon graduation and they felt betrayed and taken advantage of. Many of them were stark mad. It was like were just taken advantage of and there was nothing we could due. You can ask anyone who graduated from the first networking program from NIT in 1998. aka (National Institute of Technology) aka Corinthian Schools. There were talks of suing the program after graduation and people realized that what was promised was not delivered and then talks sort of fizzled out. Mean while they changed their name from NIT National Institute of Technology to one their many names under Corinthian Schools. Were also told that by then end of the program the accreditation agreements should be worked with local colleges so if we decide that we wanted to further our degree it would be an easy transition. On agreement that was told specifically was with Farris University. (NOT) Non of this ever happened. GRCC would even take their credits seriously. When I entered the program this is what everyone was told. Its like they sucked my Federal Aid money dry and spit me out. The education was less than stellar. Im at times my instructor was learning the material as he was teaching it. Books were often late and the material was covered half hazard. For what I paid for in my transcripts that said I got an A for we didnt even really cover. For someone looking for a way out it was sort of hard to see thought the smoke and mirrors till it was too late. When I graduated they were like I upon my exit interview I didnt owe any money than a few months later I got a bill from them saying that I owed 1400.00. I was like how his possible when you guys said everything was paid for by my financial aid. Nothing was supposed to be out of pocket. I went there for 18 months graduated; got my diploma, official transcripts, and then 4 months later a mystery bill appears. I was like, good luck collecting it. They sent me to collections vultures and ruined my credit. Fortunately going through some old things at my while I was moving I found my exit interview papers with an account receipt and it stated everything was settled almost 2yrs later. So I sent it to them and didnt even get an apology. This program totally takes advantage of people who looking for a why out of there current situation. What I know now, I would have just have gone to a regular college. What a waste of time money and my Federal Aid. With the money I owe, I should at least have on BA under my belt and working on masters. What a waste of time and money. Now that I m in a real school working towards my degree Im running out if Federal Aid because NIT SUCKED ME DRY. I wish there was something I could do.
