Here is my letter to the cottman transmission office
A couple months ago a friend of mine named Jake F. had his transmission rebuilt by the 3642 holland road cottman trans. I bought the transmission from him and finally went to put it in last thursday after installing it I took it for a test drive and when I stopped I noticed a steady drip of fluid coming from what i thought was the front seal. Jake and I went to the shop and talked to Tony, He agreed that it was wierd for it to be leaking But said that he would fix it at no cost.

Then after more talking he decided to come look at it he brought a flashlight I had not put the inspection plate back on so he could look right in the between torque converter and the trans and said that it wasn't coming from the front seal but from a front pump bolt. The tried tighting the bolt and said it was stripped, I said isn't that supposed to be torqued he said "Yes i don't know how it got stripped, Yall didn't Fu#k with it did you" I said No why would i mess with those bolts. He said well its gonna need a helicoil But again he said ok I'll fix it no charge.

I again said thanks and told him I would be back monday, Today. I took the trans out and brought it to him, this is where it gets bad. My friend sean co owner of A highly know Offroad shop (Who by the way has had 4 transmissions built by the same shop) gave me and the transmission a right to the shop and when we went in we asked how long would it be befor it was fixed and said what about today or tommorow. Tony replied with "I'm real busy i'll do it as fast as i can" and told us to bring it to the back of the building.

We went back there and got ready to unload it and i again asked " So how long until this is fixed because i my jeep is down and holding up space at the shop" he again said as fast as possible Not giving me any sort of a time frame. I said "well if you can't get it fixed by tommorow afternoon I will have to find somewhere that can and pay them because i need my vehicle" he replied with "i'll do it as fast as i can man" I said" look its not my fault this thing is bad i didn't strip the bolt" he said " I didn't do it" I said "Yea Right it was whoever built this thing He said "Yall fu**ed with that bolt, get the fu** out of here I'm not doing anything for you. And befor I could even think of something to say he runs off and slams the garage door.

Now I am the manager at the Auto parts store 1 block down from his shop i deal with customers everyday and i deal with problems everyday And he did Not handle the situation well at all. First you do not swear around customers and surely not at them. I Do not want anything at all from that location at all because obviously they do below average work, I know tis because I know those bolts should be torqed to spec and its impossible for them not to have known that bolt was stripped and they still sent it out to the customer.

Also as he tried to imply that I messed with the bolt, It makes NO sense for me to mess with those bolts i just paid over 600 dollars to have a trans rebuilt and What i should need to recheck torqe on the bolts? I think not there was a extra amount of red loctight on that bolt which makes me think they tried "glueing the d**n thing in "

Now I still need this transmission fixed so if you have other locations without customer complaints i would appreciate their taking care of the problem but really I mainly wanted to let it be known what happened.
Without some type of acceptable response I will continue telling people, especially my nearly 2000 customers per week about my experience with Cottman Transmissions.

A business needs to take care out what customers it has because as i'm sure you know you can help and take care of someone and they tell there one friend and if you Don't take care of or really screw over a customer they will tell the world.
Thanks
Mike J.

Bottom line Don't got to Cottman trans on holland road
