Last year I went to a website to check out grants, left my number, and was called within a week by someone named Doug Johnson (had a northern, perhaps Canadian, accent). I had to give him information (bank, personal, etc.) in order to receive an application booklet which he said his company would then process, and it'd be guaranteed I'd receive my grant for home improvements. Cost me $299.

They drafted a check in my name, which is my fault for being an idiot (I'd just gone through a rather rough patch after losing a loved one, so I was probably not thinking in my own best interest...but I digress.)

I did receive the booklet, but it was worthless. Didn't think about it again until I received a call from someone this morning. They said they were from Advanced Securities or something, and asked if I'd been charged for something last year in the amount of $397 from a consulting company. I couldn't recall, so I told the guy I'd have to check my statements, and he told me to call the number(s) on the check. I did (on the CPS Services draft), and I got someone's personal number off the memo area, and a flower shop (listed as the Capital Payment System's number on the draft).

Anyway, that's when I checked online to see if I could find the company on the check - perhaps they'd changed their number - and I could not find any listings for CPS except here. When I entered the name of the processing company listed on the back of the check (Capital Payment Systems), I instantly got this ripoff report site, but nothing else.

Although they've charged me only once, I saw a couple of other people had been charged multiple times, and now I'm worried that they will do this again, so I will have to change my accounts, and that pisses me off.
