Good equipment. Good customers relations. Steady freight. Many trucks. Huge Name. Good terminal location(s). Wonderful Business Model. Huge Profits. Huge Profits. Huge Profits. Oh, yes, Huge Profits.
Pigeon holes their drivers towards 3-7 year contracts for LEASE ONLY purchases. Eager new inexperienced drivers are corralled through a welcome center experience to the likes of the military. Mass production would be a better term. Get it in writing, is my ONLY recommendation for such an outfit like this. There are a slue of documents that are shuffled to you for your John Hancock usually following a speech from a staff member that is on a stringent timeline. "Okay, guys, please hurry" we only have 15 minutes before the next presentation, HURRY!! Many drivers have already been PROMISED certain things from any given recruiter. So, signing documents that WILL louse up ones credit/life becomes a common practice among young eager drivers that have placed a certain level of TRUST with ENGLAND-BIG MISTAKE!!!. The metallic clicks of handcuffs that adorn the leather belt of the guards rattle while they stroll the corridors hoping no other angry driver infiltrates the facility with a loaded weapon demanding answers. Once out on the road, there are no guarantees, NONE. What do I mean? Oh, let's just say, God forbid, there's a death in your family. England: "We will TRY to get you back in time". Follow-up England: "We're working on it" Any other reason to get home FORGET IT!!! Again there are NO GUARANTEES!!! Miles? If your not a team...there are no miles. As the Mafia would say, "Forget about it"
As with all companies do your research. By the way, I have cred here. I'm a former instructor for ENGLAND. I know what I'm talking about. Still, do your research. And by all means do not EVER take to the road with a company like this to make MONEY. You're dreams will be dismantled week by week. Sorry, but it's true. Happy Trails.

Also,I would wonder with all the bad reports on England why the ATA would have an England as a board member. It just shows that neither have any integrity and it's all about politics. So as usuall, where does that leave the little guy?

If these people only knew the law

When a person signs that "lease" contract, they also become an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, by law.

Therefore, LEGALLY, a driver does not have to "ask" to get home, LEGALLY they can just go, because they are LEGALLY self employed, right?

Worker misclassification is a huge problem in our country, and is growing by the day.

Any drivers who are having problems with ANY company under these circumstances while being called an independent contractor need to IMMEDIATELY submit IRS Form SS-8, "Determination of Worker Stautus".

This opens up a big can of worms for the company as well as huge$$$ when you are found to meet the criteria of an EMPLOYEE. I have actually done this, and it works. Then you can get unemployment compensation, and you can also file back wage claims for any week you did not make at least minimum wage, etc.

If any company forces you to comply with work rules, you are an employee.

If a company provides you anything at all to do your work, you are an employee.

If a company sets your work schedule (like forced dispatch) you are an employee.

And, MOST important, to be an independent contractor, legally, you MUST be able to provide your services to anyone you choose, any time you choose.

Trust me, CR England lease drivers are ALL misclassified and are LEGALLY employees, NOT independent contractors.

ALL current and former "lease drivers" for CR England or any other company need to obtain the IRS Form SS-8 and fill it out completely and submit it ASAP.

Do it today.

The SOL on claims for worker misclassification and wage and hoyur issues is usually 2 years.
