We have a race car and in need of a crankshaft, so we called Doug Rowe at Crankshaft Specialist to see what he had. We asked Doug if he had any cranks to fit our needs. We explained that the motor was 3,000 horse and what we wanted. Doug said that he works with all types for race engines and guarantees our satisfaction or our money back. I asked Doug if he was interested in two of my used cranks as a partical trade on a new one. Doug stated the he would be interested and to send them down to him. So I spent $400.00 shipping these two used cranks to Doug. We had placed the order with Doug, and agreed to pay $2100.00 for the new crank. The price seemed a little to good to be true. After ten days the used cranks reached Doug's business and only offered me $500.00 for each crank, I was a little disappointed but I had $400.00 already into shipping so I agreed to the price towards the new crank. We mailed a check to his place of business. The next day Doug had called 3 times to verify the our check was sent in the mail. I mentioned that it seemed a little strange and I hope we did not have any trouble with Doug. Several weeks went by and I called the people rebuilding my motor to see if the crank had shown up. Doug stated that the crank would be shipped two weeks prior to point in time. So i called Doug to see if there we any problems with the delivery of that crank. Doug stated that he would be shipping it soon, so I mentioned that we were going to have our first race of the year so we had some deadlines to meet. Needless to say after several calls after the first race it showed up at the engine builder shop. The machinist that was building my engine called and said the crank was a street crank, did not have the chrome journals that we ordered and was damaged. He stated that the crank would not take the horse power we were going to give it. So I called Doug to explain to him that the crank he sent was a street crank and was not chromed and was damaged. Doug stated the we didn't know what we were talking about, that he had sold thousands of cranks and it would work fine. So I asked my race car builder to go and look at the crank and give his opinion. The race car builder called back and stated that the crank would not work. So we called Doug back and let him know it would not work, Doug said sent the crank back and he would refund our money, but there would be a restocking fee of 25%. I asked Doug to pick up the shipping for the return of the crank and he said their was nothing wrong with that crank and he would not pay. So I sent the Crank back to Doug. Now I have another $400.00 in shipping for a crank that would not work and was damaged . Several calls and 3 week to Doug before he said that the new crank had arrived. Doug stated that he would return my old two cranks and sent a check for $865.00. I told him to send them freight collect and that I would pay for them. Two weeks went by and I called Doug to see were my cranks and money was at. At this point I was trying to recover anything out of this deal. Several times Doug would put me on hold when I would call him and never return. After around 26 calls from Alaska I yelled at him not to put me on hold and listen to what I had to say. Doug stated that they had some money and they had just sent me a check out in the mail along with the two cranks were sent by UPS. Doug said he would look up the tracking numbers and fax them to us. After a few weeks went by and nothing showed up I tried to talk with him on the phone but was unable. Please spread the word about Crankshaft Specialist - Floyd Doug Rowe

Great guys despite your problem

AUTHOR: Happy In Memphis - (U.S.A.)

I've seen some posts on this website which made me nervous about dealing with Crankshaft Specialists but being in Memphis people kept steering me toward them for a problem I had. I can't say enough about the service I received. Every employee went above and beyond to help me solve my problem. I have a blower motor that spun the balancer off the front of the crank. I had to buy a new balancer, get a new keyway cut and fix the end of the crank. They took care of everything, one of their guys even came to my house to look at the crank and helped me fix it. Doug called in a favor with a friend to get them to cut the keyway in the balancer. I am so appreciative of the job they did. I don't know anything about this dispute but I wanted someone to know that they seem like good guys to me!
