this is how it goes you get letter- you call- they answer- Hello this is ________ with the member card service division of CCA. How are you today? they ask you to spell your name and then ask if you have a valid personal checkign account- (they base their accounts on that- its not about your credit score or anything- you have to have a valid personal account) next its home phone # and birthdate- to verify your age (gotta be over 18) and they are trying to ensure that its YOU calling and not someone else with your letter... so far its all good.... THEN they go into the entire explanation of the program and if you are nto listening you might miss something- such as- they give you a free trial period- anywhere from 8 to 14 days it depends on what day of the week you call them... So they tell you you get a free 14 day membercard activation period starting today and ending on 1/1/1 (just an example) then a little alter it says " If you dont want to keep your cards active just call the benefits and cards services department by 1/1/1 and we will cancel your cards and charge you nothing" Now ask the representative if yo have to call before that date or ON that date- if you call ON that date its TOO LATE!!! Thats one "grey" area.... most everythign else is pretty legitamate.... they tellyou if you keep your cards you get charged the activation fee... 199.99... ok this is getting too long-

I worked there- IF you read the LETTER you wont get ripped off- for one if you do READ it ENTIRELY you probably wont call- but IF you do... it CAN be a good program- BUT LISTEN and ASK QUESTIONS... cancel the auto payment service so so that your payments arent taken out of your accoutn (you have to write them a letter to cancel it) And im still shady on how that works EXACTLY- I dont know if you have to do it each month or once or what..... (yeah they keep employees in teh dark too- their big thing they stress is "Word for Word nothing else, just word for word" thats why the poor reps that take your call cant answer your questios right away.... They get written up for it- all call ARE truely monitored AND recorded... I know got "termed" but this isnt just an angry employee letter... Honestly if I was offered the card I would gt it- i love the stuff int eh catalogs- but I also KNOW the system so I KNOW how to not get screwed- its unfortunate that they do a lot of "business" with elderly or disabled who cant always be on top of things....
ABout the 200 you had taken out of your account- I know how the calls go- they asked you at the end several questions and you had to reply YES or NO.... "You do authorize and understand that by keeping your cards active and in good standing past 1/1/1 we will automatically apply your one time member card activation fee of 199.99 on (whatever day is the end of your trial) and you authorize our credit ready system to report your new to our credit ready system?" and then there are others as well...... Oh yeah your credit limit- EVERYONES letter says 6500.... thats the starting limit for the card....

so get the letter- if ya want the card (it IS Helpful to build credit) call activate then IMMEDIATLY call benefits and Cards services- cancel all the extras- auto payment, benefits ect- tell em you cant afford the activation fee (they will chop it WAY down... and then all you have to pay is a smaller membership fee- and your annual fee (198 the first year and 99 each year after) double check how often and when you have to cancel everything (it may be more than once I am not sure)

hope this helps someone- I felt guilty cuz i know while workin there I convinced some people who didnt understand it all to get the card and they are probably hating me now.............. so I finally decided to see if I could "help" Im not bashing CCA- but they could be a little CLEARER on things........
