The company damaged my filing cabinet and dining table. Even though I found the cheapest possible replacements at OfficeMax and WalMart, the company is too cheap to send $280 in compensation and instead keeps stonewalling.

The filing cabinet seemed to be taken down stairs too roughly, and the bottoms and backs of several drawers were broken and my files were all over in the bottom (see photo). The movers took the dining room table apart and lost the bolts needed to reassemble it. When I asked the people who moved it in to reassemble it, they told me that "any idiot can put it together, " but refused to do so themselves.

I called customer service several times so I could begin the claims process, but the company doesn't seem to staff that department. They never answer the phone and even though I left several messages, they never called me back. When I called other departments, they all refused to help me and instead transferred me to the same unstaffed customer service department. I finally wrote a "demand letter, " threatening to take them to small claims court and only then did they send the claim forms. For some inexplicable reason, they demanded notarization on the forms, even though I was providing forms and receipts. I attached a note saying that my information was sufficient, and that I would require a letter from their lawyer explaining why they required notarization, and that then I would add the cost to my claim. The claim remains unresolved.

In addition, I am a single woman who was moving into a rural area, and the company sent sketchy and intimidating movers. They didn't have, or know where to get, the shuttle vehicle that was included in the contract (and that I was paying for) and stonewalled in several ways to try to avoid providing one. The mover said he didn't know he needed one, and I said it was in the contract. The next day he said they couldn't reserve a truck unless I gave them my Visa number. He had such a strong Russian accent that I could barely understand what he was saying, so I asked to speak with his supervisor. He said his supervisor's number was "in his phone" and that he would call me back with the number, but then never called back. They got lost (after I'd tried to give them directions and they'd refused to take them), so I had to go down to the highway to find them because they were too incompetent to find my house. By now it 6:30 pm on the day they'd said they would arrive. They still didn't have the shuttle vehicle. He said I would need to drive him back into town to get one. They demanded that I drive them to my house, in my car, so they could see for themselves why they needed a shuttle vehicle. I showed them that my neighborhood had hilly, single-lane dirt roads and I showed them the line item in the contract. They continued to discuss how they could bring in their truck, even when I said it was against the HOA rules. When I demanded they get the shuttle vehicle I had PAID for, they said they wouldn't be able to deliver until the next day. I said that was fine, as I didn't want those guys at my house at night anyway. When they finally did show up the next day, with a shuttle truck, , they were rude and almost threatening about demanding payment. They also got angry that I wouldn't let them drive their truck into my yard.

Response to complaint

AUTHOR: Anthony Ayala - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 24, 2009

This is in response to the ripoffreport.com submitted by Ms. Suzi Nl.

This shipment was delivered on 06/27/2009. There were two pieces that were either damaged or parts lost. I can not account for the phone calls that Ms. Nl claims to have made however the "demand letter" that she is referring to is dated July 14, 2009 received in this office on July 20, 2009.

Claim forms were sent to to her on July 27, 2009. The completed claim forms were received back in this office on August 10, 2009. Her claim was processed and carrier liability determined on August 19, 2009. A letter and settlement check were requested on August 21, 2009. A period of 11 days from receipt of her completed claim form.

Having claim forms notarized is not frivolous nor is it excessive red tape. There are many instances that claim forms do not represent either the damages, the contents of a missing box, or the type of liability that the contract calls for. It is clear to us that by requesting that the claim forms be notarized it has greatly reduces the number of claims that tend to inflate either the value of the claim or the level of coverage.

In most parts of the United States the cost to have a claim form notarized is around $10.00 and most banks will do it as a free service for a customer.

I cannot speak to the portion about the driver however I will state that I do not get complaints about Sergey, the delivery driver in question. He has always represented CCVL in a professional and respectful manner.

From the start this woman was talking about taking us to small claims court, quite a leap from filing a claim to going to court all within a two week period. I am not sure what she is trying to accomplish however I do believe that she has
over-reacted and is looking for someone to vent to.

Respectfully,
