I signed up for the on ramp coarse for 1 month. The first thing they do not tell you is that there are several restrictions from what they are advertising. That is how they hook you. After the 7 classes of on ramp you join in with the regular classes but are limited as to what times until you join for $175.00 per month. The owner and Coach Scott Pfeifer is one of the head coaches there. Unfortunately he is highly uneducated and unfortunately has no people skills. When you proceed to ask for help because there is an exercise you have NOT been instructed on before, Scott tells you and I quote "don't worry you will figure it out!" He is not willing to help you at all. He tears you down tells you you don't have what it takes when you are still in training. He actually told a woman and I quote "you are not capable of doing this." The main thing when working out and training is you do not want to get injured...that is not a concern at all of CrossFit Active Performance. Scott does not hesitate to tear you down and tell you can't! He makes you feel inadequate because you need assistance on knowing how to do an exercise. Correct me if I am mistaken, but we are there to learn and get stronger and better, not become injured and weaker. I don't know about you, but he should be building you up helping you obtain the confidence to believe YOU CAN not can't. I wanted to make it known to all before joining CrossFit Active Performance buyer beware. There are several crossfit gyms out there that will give you proper instructions and lift you up not tear you down. In addition have NO restrictions as well.

Nothing could be further from the truth

AUTHOR: DonDQ - ()

POSTED: Saturday, September 07, 2013

My experience with Scott Pfeifer and Active Performance was the exact opposite. This guy must be living in a parallel universe.  I've been training at gyms for 32 years and martial arts studios for 23 years. I even worked at an elite mega gym in college as a personal trainer. I've never met a more professional trainer/coach than Scott.  He is exceptionally courteous to all athletes.  He is especially knowledgeable of full circle fitness and health.  I signed up for a LivingsSocial $29.00 for one month of Crossfit which included their 6 day Active On-Ramp program 2 weeks ago. This program is designed to teach all athletes proper form and technique to avoid injury.  FYI, all gyms should do this!!!  90% of the people that work out at gyms have no clue how to work out properly.  That's why they see minimual results after years of hard work. I was very skeptical about joining Crossfit.  I've heard all the horror stories about the injuries. Before I started I watched 1.5 classes.  This was the cleanest gym I have ever seem.  Everyone cleaned up after themselves and motivated each other.  Everyone was slim, strong and healthy. I watched Scott and Markus constantly watching every one's form and technique. I watched Scott do an upside down rope climb in an L position.  I was sold. I went home and registered for the Active On- Ramp program.  I already finished the first three classes.  Markus pointed out my flaws doing dead lift and squats with the trainer bar immediately on day 3.  I was thoroughly impressed.  Marcus told us he would not allow any athletes to lift heavy weights until their form and technique was perfected.  I was so relieved.  I stayed after class and practiced doing air squats facing the wall with my feet three inches from the wall.  So as for this joker who made his false comments, Get a life!!

Not true!

Hi,

I have read the report and can not understand how anybody could write something like that!

I have been working out with Crossfit Active Performance for few months now. I never felt that anybody was trying to "hook" me. It is NOT what they do. You get first month for $49. Which is a pretty good deal. If you are new to crossfit you need to take On Ramp course which takes usually 2 weeks and after that you can join regular classes. And then, after the first month, you decide if you want to continue! Nobody is hooking anybody. It is up to you!

Personaly, I did not know what to expect. I had no idea what crossfit is about when I walked in first time. But I wanted to take advantage of that deal and try it at least for one month. After that first month, there was no way I am not going to continue working out with them. I love the gym, the workouts, the coaches.

And about coach Scott. He is extremely knowledgeable, especially about nutrition, fitness and healthy lifestyle. He had helped me with several nutrition questions and he has always been very willing to help and kind! He is an excellent athlet and mountaineer! He is very supportive, encourages the people in the class and watches closely if everybody is doing the moves properly.

I am happy I have joined this gym. My strenght and health rapidly improved and it is all thanks to great coaches in Crossfit Active Performance!

Report could not be MORE inaccurate

AUTHOR: Veronica - (United States of America)

Wowthis report could not be more inaccurate.  Ive been a member of CFAP since they opened

their doors, over 8 months.  Let me painta more accurate picture.  I started at CFAP completely out of shape, recently had a baby, had not exercised in over one year and with zero crossfit experience.

Scott, Markus and all coaches at CFAP worked with me and provided me with tools to gradually rebuild my strength, endurance, agility, and confidence.  Scott was critical in this process not only with his coaching but his added value of nutritional advice.  To say he is uneducated is ignorant.  He provides answers to ALL my questions with more information than I would every expect.  In addition, he has been working with me since I started on several weaknesses I have and never gives up on me.  He remembers what help I need specifically and always gives me one-on-one attention and encouragement.  He provides highly detailed instruction at the beginning of EVERY WOD even on those weve done before.  He allows plenty of time to ask questions.  You just have to be brave enough to ask.  But its not surprising that someone who does not read fine print on a Groupon or other deal would also be afraid to speak up and ask for help from the coaches.  Safety comes first to CFAP coaches, but you need to speak up if you would like advice on modifying an exercise and they will ALWAYS provide modifications.  I still to this day cannot perform all workouts RX and the coaches have never ONCE made

me feel bad about that.  Check out the gym for yourself, read the reviews on YELP and I hope you get to experience a positive change in life like I have thanks to CFAP.

This report reflects the opinion of one unreasonable person

AUTHOR: Joe McNamara - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 15, 2012

I wanted to respond to this report because my experiences with CrossFit Active Performance and Scott Pfiefer have been completely different. I became a member in May and like everyone else who has no crossfit experience I went through the On Ramp program. After the 6 or 7 training sessions that the On Ramp program consists of I started taking the regular classes. Because of my work schedule I always take the classes that Scott coaches so I have trained with him probably over 100 times since I started. I have never felt unsafe and I have always received excellent quality coaching. I have accomplished more in the last six months then I ever expected to when I started and that is largely the result of the training I get from Scott. The report indicates that Scott is "highly uneducated" which is not true and actually doesnt even make sense. Scott is the most knowledgeable person I know on the subjects of fitness and nutrition and is happy to share his knowledge to the benefit of Active Performance members. We train hard and push our limits but not to the degree that we risk injury or compromise safety. There is no "hook" either. They give you a break on your first months rate so you can see if you like it without spending much.

It's too bad that this person had a bad experience, but for the one bad review there are many happy member/athletes. If youre looking for a place to train I suggest you come by and try it. It's a great group of people led by a great coaching staff who have a lot of fun together in and out of the gym.

Misleading Review

AUTHOR: Diana N. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

I purchased a similar promotion through Amazon Local Deals this past summer and have had a great experience.  The experience was so spectacular that I continued my membership and have been working out with the coaches and fellow athletes for over five months.

The reviewer seems upset that they were not informed of any restrictions on the deal they purchased.  But if they had carefully read the deal description before purchasing, this is what they should have comprehended:

This Groupon is valid for On-Ramp classes that meet at 7 a.m., 11 a.m., or 5:30 p.m.
This Groupon is valid for regular classes that meet at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., and 5:30 p.m

After you finish your one month promotion, you have the option of joining and registering for the regular sessions at any of the time slots that are available.  The deal is pretty straightforward; there is no hook.

I have worked out with Scott Pfeifer numerous times and am quite shocked to hear someone call him highly uneducated and unfortunately has no people skills.  Scott and all of the other Active Performance coaches are very professional, experienced, and supportive.  They all genuinely care about the well-being of each athlete and would never ever jeopardize our safety on any of the workouts.  Prior to all workouts, Scott and the coaches go through the movements and proper techniques before we begin.  Then they have each athlete perform the movement to ensure that the technique is done properly before the athlete can begin the workout.  If the athlete is unable to perform the movement as prescribed, then the movement is modified so that the athlete can achieve the workout.  The reviewer may have taken these phrases out of context, but from my experience, I have never heard Scott or the other coaches say "don't worry you will figure it out!" or you are not capable of doing this.  The coaches at Active Performance are very positive and they want every athlete that comes through to succeed.

It's unfortunate that reviewer feels the way they do, but if you are debating on whether or not to join Crossfit Active Performance, please do not let this negative review deter you from joining.  Stop by the box and meet the coaches.  You will find that they are very welcoming and supportive of the goals you want to achieve.  While you are there, come talk to the athletes.  We have plenty of stories to share about how these coaches here at Active Performance have transformed our lives.

Let me be Specific...

AUTHOR: Lucks - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

I have been a member of Crossfit Active Performance for 5 months.  My time spent there has been nothing but a positive influence on not only my Crossfit performance and growth but my positive mental growth that has been influenced by all of the coaches at Active.

I have been working closely with Scott for all 5 months and I can promise any individual that is new and is a bit hesitant about joining Active Performance... You will not be disappointed.  (that would be in all caps if the rules didn't tell me I was not aloud!!!!)  Scott has been nothing but helpful, motivational, inspiring and most of all he actually cares about his athletes.

I truly believe that Scott is 100% invested in my growth.  If you do decide to listen to the "person" that filed this report to begin with... remember my post and see how invested other coaches are from other boxes.  Not saying that there are not other great coaches out there, I am just saying Scott Pfiefer is one of them and he works along side of 4 other coaches at Active that are just as great as he.

Week one of joining Active, I had an email from Scott on how to improve my weakness and a laid out plan on exactly what I needed to do to achieve them.  That's a great Coach!!!

To the person that wrote this - it's unfortunate that your experience or how you viewed your experience to be was so bad.  Quite frankly, I do not believe a word you have written and I can only hope that no one else will either. Merry Christmas!

I love my Active Athletes! - Thank you for all your rebuttals to this negative review

AUTHOR: Scott Pfeifer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

As usual, I am once again blown away by my Active Athletes!  We thought a few of our members might have a couple words to say in response to this negative review, but we didn't expect word to spread and to get so much thoughtful support so quickly! We are so overwhelmingly grateful to have the support of such amazing people. Thank you all! We are very, very touched by your support and we never forget how lucky we are to have such an awesome Active family!

But I think we've probably given enough attention to this site which profits on negativity (they are kind enough to offer an arbitration process to contest reviews which only costs $2,000 to initiate:).

For those of you that have told us you are planning on posting your own rebuttals also but haven't yet, we would much rather you give the attention to more positive outlets like Yelp or elsewhere.

This negative review seems suspiciously inconsistent with the feedback we get from the rest of our members, but if it was in fact posted by an actual trial member of our gym, I sincerely and personally apologize for any misunderstandings that may have resulted from anything I may have said during your brief time with us.  I would honestly love the opportunity to clarify any misconceptions or just to get more of your feedback if you are interested in contacting me or any of our staff.  Our business only continues to exist if we deliver on our commitment to help our members improve the quality of their lives; this is the driving force behind everything we say and do.  Even if one of the hundreds of people currently training with us feels uncomfortable because of our words or actions, we want to know about it.

Great Experience at Crossfit Active Performance

AUTHOR: Jessy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

I have recently become a member at Crossfit Active Performance, and I've had a wonderful experience!  I wasn't sure if I would like Crossfit, but I enjoyed the on ramp program so much so that I've now been a member for a few months and absolute love it!  Specific time slots are necessary when there are as many athletes at this gym as there are.   Only a certain number of athletes are allowed into each class so that there is enough equipment for each athlete to use, and so that the coach of the class can easily work with everyone and to make sure that no one will get hurt.

One of the main reasons why I love this gym is due to the amazing coaches that they have on staff there.  All of the coaches, including the owner, Scott Pfeifer, are extremely professional, personal, encouraging, and knowledgable.  I'm regularly in one of the classes that Scott teaches and throughout my workouts I hear from him different times telling me that I'm doing a good job and to keep going, which I'm always grateful for because it helps to push me further and faster.

Every class that I've had with Scott has been great, especially since he always goes through the movements that will be in the work out of the day.  As we run through the movements, Scott will walk around and make sure that we are all using proper form and such so that we do not get hurt.  As we run through the workouts Scott explains how the body works and such, proving that he is in fact extremely knowledge about the the body and how it's supposed to move.

I believe in this gym and the results that it gives it's athletes so much so that I've encouraged my friends and my family to join and they are excited to begin their Crossfit experience at the end of this month.  It's a great community, with great results, and with wonderful coaches.

False

AUTHOR: ETaylor - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

This rip off report appears to be written by a person that has an motive other than reporting the truth, since the majority of the claims or statements are barely even half true.

First off I am new to crossfit, starting with Active Performance in the same manner as this claim on the first month deal working through the "on-ramp" cycle learned all of the technique and forms.  Not only do Scott and the other coaches teach you everything you need to know to stay safe during "on-ramp" but they reinforce these lessons every single day prior to the WOD to ensure safety and proper technique / form.

Secondly, Crossfit Active Performance has changed my life.  In a matter of two months, following the coaching staff's training plan, the Paleo system for my diet and getting plenty of sleep I have drasticly changed my body composition by increase lean muscle mass and dropping a crazy amount of body fat.  I have never once felt un-safe, at risk of injury, been talked down to or discouraged.  Everyday that I encounter someone from CAP it is the complete opposite.  I feel as though my once though of "dream" goals are actually obtainable; that I can be fit and I can reverse the history of my family by not being an over-weight male with diabetes.

If you are interested in crossfit in Mission Viejo come into the box and check it out.  Talk to Scott personally and the other coaches; watch a workout; see what otherwise "normal" people are able to accomplish.

Couldn't disagree more

AUTHOR: KS - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

I can't speak for the author's experience and I won't speculate as to what would lead them to make such a report, but I can speak for my own experience at Active Performance. I signed up for one month through the Amazon Local deal last summer and honestly did not think I would enjoy working out with these guys as much as I do.

Everyone at Active Performance, including Scott, is the opposite of what the author says they are the most experienced, supportive, and enthusiastic people I have ever worked out with. They possess all the qualities you would want from a coach. I had never done Cross Fit before, and when I started I hadn't been exercising at all. I was intimidated by the whole Cross Fit experience, but after the first day of On Ramp I knew I had found the place for me. A place where you are not judged by your level (or lack) of fitness, but trained and supported at each session. The coaches walk you through every movement, and if you don't understand, they will work with you individually to make sure you get it. They are very concerned with safety and proper technique.

I have never experienced Scott tearing anyone down or telling someone not to worry if they don't understand. I have been going 3-4 times a week for the last 5 months and I still ask Scott and the other coaches for help all the time... and they are always there to instruct me and help me improve. There are movements that not everyone can do, and the coaches want you to build your way up to that level. I've never been flat out told that I can't do something... even though there are lots of movements that I can't do! All the coaches show each athlete how to modify a movement so that it's appropriate for their skill and fitness level, but they will tell you along the way that you will get there eventually. Even when I think I will never be able to do something, they tell me I will. It just takes a lot of hard work and time to get there.

Five months ago I could barely run a block. I ran my first 5k four months after I started working out at Active Performance and felt amazing. I am a person who hated working out, hated running, hated gyms and never thought I would find a program that would help me get in shape. I'm not at all self-motivated, which is why I'm so grateful that I found Active Performance. Everyone there, including all the coaches and the other athletes, have helped me believe that I can do great things. I wouldn't be paying $175 a month if I didn't love it.

Lastly, keep in mind that there are ALWAYS restrictions when you sign up for a service, especially when you use a Groupon or other deal. Read the fine print and know what you're getting into -- ask questions if you don't understand. If you know the restrictions and you choose to sign up for something, then get angry when that company enforces said restrictions, that's on you.

If you're reading this and thinking about joining Active Performance, you can see all the other athletes who have posted in support of Scott and Markus. Don't take one negative review at face value; go in and meet the coaches. You'll see how much they care about cross fit and about everyone who works out with them.

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

Wow this report could not be any further from the truth, do not buy this nonsense! It's honestly BS and sounds made up. I rave about Crossfit Active Performance nonstop to friends/family/acquaintances, and the biggest thing I talk about is the FACT that this gym cares so much about quality of technique and safety. I've never been to any other gym that focuses so much on that, and it is so motivating to know that I am actually doing the lifts/exercises correctly. The coaches don't just throw you in and expect you to thrive, they take the time to walk around and personally check to see where people may be struggling or need help. Scott is a phenomenal coach (they all are), with plenty of people skills. He is kind, encouraging, knowledgable, and always pushes you to push yourself further than you think you can. I am so proud to be a part of this gym, it has changed my life and I will never go anywhere else!

My Experience Has Been Nothing But Positive

AUTHOR: TT - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, December 14, 2012

I was disappointed to read about this persons experience with Crossfit Active Performance.  I have been a member there for almost 6 months and have nothing but positive feedback to offer.  I was new to Crossfit and most of the movements and lifts were things I had never even tried before.  From the beginning, Scott and Markus (owners) were supportive, encouraging, and totally motivating. Both of them are extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable.  They have always taken the time to work withme and help me improve my skills, even though I am not some high-level athlete/competitor.  They treat everyone the same and make you feel important no matter what your skill level is.  I have always felt like they believed in me more than I believed in myself, and I think that has helped build my confidence to do things I never thought I would be able to do.  The gym is very nice, the atmosphere is friendly and fun, and everything is run in a very professional and organized manner (online registration, online tracking of your personal progress, convenient class times throughout the entire day, Sunday open gym time, etc.).  I am more than pleased with my experience here. I understand that everyone has a different personality and sometimes what works for one person and is a good fit, does not work for someone else.  So my advice would be to try out Crossfit Active Performance for yourself, rather than just accept someone elses opinion/experience.  I dont think you will be disappointed, and you might just find what you have been looking for!

CrossFit Active Performance Will Change Your Health

AUTHOR: Jose Sanch - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I am proud to be a Active Athlete. Active is a world class gym in my eyes. I have been a member of this gym for over seven months and have lost over 110 pounds over these seven months. The owners Scott and Markus have have pushed me and motivated me to be a better person in both health and as an athlete.

All the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They use a hands-on approach, and they're not only your coaches, they're your friends too. They know just how to motivate each and every one of their athletes and keep them coming back for more workouts.

Active is not only my gym; it's my second family. I have met wonderful coaches and many new friends that have helped me be the person I am today.

The Active facility is clean, safe, and well organized. Class sizes are kept small so athletes can receive individual attention in areas they need help with.

Thank you Scott and Markus for everything you have done for me. Your gym has really changed my life. Keep up the great work.

Inaccurate and Intentionally Misleading

AUTHOR: Gail - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

This report is not only inaccurate but is written in such a way as to twist half-truths into a completely misleading picture. I have been a member of Crossfit Active Performance for the past several months, and have been extremely impressed not only with the knowledgeable coaching, positive and encouraging environment and wonderful community but the fairness and flexibility of the owners. I started my experience with an "Amazon Local" deal for 30 days, and was anxious to get started. However, I had a longstanding trip planned that would have interrupted my on ramp program and interfered with my ability to fully utilize my trial period. Scott Pfeiffer and his co-owner were willing to work with me to extend the trial period so that I could finish my on ramp and try out some regular classes before making a commitment. I haven't looked back since.

I got into crossfit partly because I have a son who is a long time crossfit athlete. He warned me to be very careful when choosing a gym, to be sure that safety was a priority and that I would not be pushed to attempt things beyond my capabilities. Scott and every one of the other coaches at Crossfit Active Performance have been very patient in teaching me how to do the movements and exercises correctly, and have always stressed the importance of proper form and good mechanics in everything we do. They help me to modify when necessary, while encouraging me to stretch myself and try a little more as I make gains in my strength and fitness. Scott has a really great eye for what an athlete is able to accomplish, and has helped me find my level as I learned all of the varied techniques.

I have been involved with athletics for my entire life in one form or another, and am presently the team physician for a national karate team that represents the USA in international competition. I can honestly state that Crossfit Active Performance offers outstanding coaching, an excellent facility and a very positive environment that gets results. I feel that the $175 monthly fee is an excellent value for unlimited small group classes with attentive and motivational coaches.

I have gone through there on ramp program and really enjoyed and learned a lot from everyone there as well as one of the head coaches Scott. Scott specifically has taught me a lot in lifting technique and training. I have improved so much so fast that I have done my first competition and placed 9th out of 85 people in my class. Scott is very smart in what he does and has never told me I cannot do something. He has told me I am not ready for certain activities, but that is helpful to me. Scott can be less social then many other of the coaches, but that is diversity and thats ok. He cares about his athletes much more than sometimes he seems to come off, but in the end he has helped me through and through as well as many other fellow athletes of mine.

This report is inaccurate

AUTHOR: Sean - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I am a member at Crossfit Active Performance and I feel this report is totally and completely inaccurate. I will not attempt to guess what is the motivation behind it. I can vouch for Scott's level of professionalism and his level of knowledge. All of the staff at this Crossfit box are very knowledgable and endeavor to increase their knowledge at every opportunity.

members are taken through each movement over and over again without weight until it is second nature so as to avoid injury. The staff are very encouraging and supportive no matter what level of fitness any given individual is at. In fact it is such a priority to be supportive that members are encouraged to support other members as well.

My experience with Crossfit Active Performance has been only positive. The service and level of personal training is an incredible value. I would also like to let anyone reading this know that the gym has an incredible sense of community where it is readily apparent that every member is valued.

What???????

AUTHOR: Mission Viejo resident - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

Back in July 2012, I signed up for the on ramp classes and then was able to work out free for the rest of that month.  I was never restricted from attending any of the WODs (workout of the day).  I simply signed up online and then showed up for the workout.

My coach was Scott Pfeifer most days and I have always found him to be a very passionate coach.  I also feel he is one of the most knowledgeable athletes I had ever known.  He has walked me through many a workout using all kinds of visuals to make me lift more than I ever thought I could and jump higher than I thought my legs could jump.

In September, he ran a 30-day challenge where he explained the Paleo diet to anyone who wanted to come one Saturday morning.  The place was packed and he inspired everyone to try eating Paleo for 30 days. I even took the challenge and I hate changing the way I eat.

Yeah, Im still paying $175.00 a month but I have never found a gym that has treated me like family, shown me over and over how to do every exercise, and pushed me to do my best so I can continue to get
stronger everyday.  I have spent more than $175.00 eating junk food and trying fad diets month after month.

I still workout about 4 days a week. Neither Scott nor any of the other coaches has ever made me feel
inadequate when doing the workouts and I constantly have to ask whats a clean??  A jerk??

False, Misleading, and Suspect "Review"

AUTHOR: John Kavlich - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

Let me begin by offering my condolences to the author of this "review."  Your experience at CrossFit Active Performance could not be further from the incredible six months I have spent training under the extremely talented coaches at this well-appointed gym.  I am sorry that you were unable to find the fitness results you were looking for or experience the happiness that I have found at this first-rate company.  However, I could not disagree more with the "review" you have posted here.

CrossFit Active Performance DOES require all athletes to complete a seven-part "On-Ramp" program prior to joining their normal daily workouts.  In my opinion, this is an exceptional program that actually sets this gym apart from its competitors.  After completing the on-ramp program, I was able to attend any of the eight daily workouts for the final two weeks of my first month 'teaser' rate.  Was I intimidated by the monthly $175 to continue training at this gym?  Absolutely.  However, I and the other hundreds of athletes who choose to train at this gym obviously see the value in the quality of the training we receive.

To say that Scott is unwilling to "help you at all," when seeking help with an exercise is an absolute, bald-faced lie.  Having played collegiate football, I came into CAP with years of experience in weight-lifting and sports training.  Scott and the other CAP coaches have always been able to answer any questions and have provided me with better coaching than I ever received previously.  Their instruction has dramatically improved my technique in the six months I have spent with them.

If scaling down an exercise "makes you feel inadequate," then you are missing the point of the training strategy of CrossFit and, frankly, sounds like more of a personal issue.  As explained in the On Ramp Program, there are three tiers of progression for all CrossFit exercises: performing with full range of motion; performing at the prescribed weight; and then the time it takes to complete the exercise.  Your "review" expresses concern for "becom(ing) injured.  This is exactly the reason the coaches at CAP actively monitor all athletes and help them achieve the highest possible results in each exercise.  I can only imagine this is what you misconstrued as "you are not capable of doing this."  This statement sounds completely out of character for Scott or any of the coaches at CAP.  All coaches are extremely kind, supportive, and encouraging.  Personally, I believe that the attention to each individual athlete's performance is one of the competitive strengths of this gym.

Describing Scott Pheifer as highly uneducated and unfortunately has no people skills, is one of the most ridiculous statements I have ever read.  Along with the exceptional education on fitness and exercise, I have also learned an incredible amount about diet, nutrition and healthy living from Scott and the other coaches at CAP.  Scott gave a three hour training for all members(including those in their first month teaser period) on nutrition that has completely changed the way I look at nutrition.  For a business that provides fitness training, it is remarkable to say that the way CAP has helped me change my diet has had the biggest impact on quality of life.  In addition to all this, a couple days after a conversation with Scott(wait, I thought he had no people skills?),  I received an email from him out of the blue with tons of information including links to studies and scientific journals on sleep that have helped me improve this area of my life as well.

I drive 20 miles, past dozens of other crossfit gyms, to train at CrossFit Active Performance.  The reason for this is pretty simple- they simply provide a superior product.  In addition to this, Scott, Markus(co-owner and phenomenal CAP coach), and the entire CAP team are downright good people.  I look forward to seeing these people and receiving their encouragement and coaching.  In the six months I have spent as a client, I have always experienced the highest level of service and relationship with the entire staff at CAP.  I am skeptical the negative review posted here is genuine, but I wanted to post a rebuttal simply based on how passionately I feel about my experience with this company.  If you are considering training at CrossFit Active Performance, I encourage you to read the positive reviews posted by REAL clients before making your decision.  Or better yet, stop in, chat with these good folks, and experience for yourself what this amazing company is all about.

OP, you need to take a step back and think...

AUTHOR: keppxfit - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I came across this Ripoff Report and was pretty astounded because I have had the exact OPPOSITE experience with Crossfit Active Performance.

As a current member of this gym (since their opening in April) I believe I have a pretty good idea as to how this gym operates, especially in comparison to other Xfit gyms in the area having been doing crossfit regularly since 2010.

I think the best way to respond is to address each of the original poster's complaints in-turn.

1. " After the 7 classes of on ramp you join in with the regular classes but are limited as to what times until you join for $175.00 per month"
-First off, this gym opened in april, and due to the level of coaching and expertise as well as the quality, this gym has basically filled quickly.  Because of the high demand, paying monthly members are given priority on Gym times over the 'on-ramp' people who are just sampling (some xfit on-rampers find that xfit isn't what they expected and quit after the month).  but once you join and become a full member you can pick any time you want (there are classes hourly).  should they allow people who haven't joined to take a spot from a paying member? that wouldn't make any sense, business or otherwise.

2. "The owner and Coach Scott Pfeifer is one of the head coaches there. Unfortunately he is highly uneducated and unfortunately has no people skills"
- WOW.  umm, I think you may be speaking from a place of ignorance because coach scott is not only one of the best xfit coaches I have ever trained with (and i've been to many other xfit gyms in the area) but he works with and has students that are competitive xfitters as well as other trainers who work with athletes from the xfit games.  He is strict, but fair.  he doesn't yell or put people down, he encourages you, but hes not a pushover just as a coach should be.  I have never heard him tear down a student, and there are people there ages 50-60 and others that are over 100lbs overweight.  every coach, especially scott, takes time to help students make sure they are training correctly and safely.

3. "" He actually told a woman and I quote "you are not capable of doing this."
-
This only reiterates my previous point.  Too many students are just not in the physical shape to do some of these exercises, or they don't have the education on the movement (these are olympic lifts).  When a person with a chronic injury or maybe obese tries to do a rope climb or deadlift 100% of their body weight, they WILL hurt themselves.  making sure that people know their limitations as well as showing them a scaled-down alternative is what keeps people safe and un-injured.  THE ENTIRE POINT of the 7 days of on-ramp is to show students the correct move and instill proper safety and nutrition.  all of the Crossfit active performance trainers continually tell you that you can do it, just stick with it and don't try too much too fast.  work your way up to a proper clean and jerk with the right alternative exercises until you are ready.

its a shame to see someone with no knowledge and absolutely no common sense come onto a website like this and just spout nonsense without critically thinking.  here we have great owners and coaches that created a gym that is meant to help people and make them stronger and happier and healthier, they put their blood sweat and tears into a new business in this poor economy, wake up at 5 am to help people and go home at 7 pm and this is the kind of thing that gets put out there.  it makes me sad.

Completely Inaccurate Report

AUTHOR: Alex Park - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I couldn't disagree more with the report about Crossfit Active Performance and the things that were written about Scott Pfeifer.

First and foremost, while the 7 introductory "on-ramp" classes are a bit limited as far as when you can attend it's not because there is some kind of hook or gimmick to try to get people to show up.  The fact is that because you are new to this, you require more attention from the coaches.  Bear in mind there are the active members who also need attention and coaching and so it's completely understandable that they have to designate specific dates and times for the "on-ramp" classes.  Even still, there are multiple classes per day just for the "on-ramp" participants and it is quite easy to make up a day if you happen to have to miss one.

Secondly, the coaches, Scott inclusive, are all very helpful and very educated about what they are coaching.  They all hold the members to a very high standard when it comes to form, not just to ensure that you won't hurt yourself, but also to ensure that everyone is getting the most out of each movement.  I've had lower back issues in the past and the risk of injury was always something that worried me about doing Crossfit.   However, Scott has taken time to coach me through the finer points of performance to ensure that I'm doing the movements correctly so as to not hurt myself.

I am unsure what kind of experience this person had but it is definitely not a shared one with me personally.  I have been a proud member of Crossfit Active Performance for around 4 months now and I couldn't be more happy.  I'm in better shape and stronger than I have ever been before, which is saying quite a bit as I was a gym rat long before I ever tried Crossfit.

In my experience, this report does not seem accurate.

AUTHOR: Alain - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I am currently a member of CAP that came over from a competing (now defunct) box.  Having come from another Crossfit gym, I did not have to go through the on-ramp course, but the program choices at CAP are some of the most convenient and affordable that I have been able to find in South Orange County.  There are several formats to fit your schedule.  As far as restrictions, my previous gym (and many others I had researched) had significantly more restrictions and I don't consider the programs here restrictive in any sense whatsoever.

In regards to the comments regarding Coach Scott, I also find the observations inconsistent with what I've seen from him the past 3 months I've been a member at CAP.  I find Coach Scott to be very knowledgeable and consistently trying to improve his knowledge of the sport and proper ways to train.  During one session he was actually testing a deadlift technique and shared his opinions on his results.   Informing a person that they are 'not capable of doing' something can be taken out of context.  If I'm trying to lift 400 lbs. to impress my fellow athletes and my coach tells me he doesn't think I'm capable of doing so, it's more likely he's worried about me injuring myself.

Personally I have been very satisfied with my experience at Active Performance.  The coaching staff are all very knowledgeable, personable and professional.  The members are enthusiastic, driven and friendly.  I thought my previous gym was good, but until I joined Active Performance, I have only improved as a Crossfit athlete thanks to Coach Scott, Coach Markus, Coach Cameron and the rest of the staff.  Cheers.

100% false

First off, with any coupon you purchase or sign up for, you should be aware of what you are purchasing.

This claim is very surprising to me. I work out at Crossfit Active Performance 3-4 days a week, and have been for 6 months now. I have never heard any of the coaches make these types of comments to the athletes.

Each day, we spend time before the work out going over the movements, proper technique, and scaling down the work out so every athlete can participate no matter where they are in their fitness.  The coaches are always watching us to make sure we are using proper form, and our safety is absolutely a priority to them.

Being in the medical field, I have heard many false claims about  health. Coach Scott is extremely knowledgeable about fitness, nutrition, and the human body. I had many questions at the beginning, and it was the prompt responses that I received from the coaches that made things easier. Many times I had emailed the trainers early morning, or late evening, and received answers almost immediately even when Coach Scott was out of town or halfway around the world on business.

We log our results daily on a website called Beyond The Whiteboard. This helps us see our progress. Many days I have gone into the gym, and Scott has congratulated me on a Personal Record he saw that I did. These are the things that make this gym unique. The coaches take a personal interest in our health and progress.

I started working out at Crossfit Active Performance one week after finishing chemotherapy for Lymphoma Cancer. It was Scott who encouraged me to take an active role in my health. He scaled each work out down for me so that I could participate with the rest of the athletes, and it was Scott who PERSONALLY ran with me during the warms up runs until I built up enough endurance to run with the rest of the class.

It is very obvious to anyone that works out at Crossfit Active Performance that the success of the athletes is a direct reflection on the  personal dedication of our coaching staff. They are the reason we are all getting stronger, healthier, and hitting personal records consistently

Crossfit Active Performance

AUTHOR: fredy - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

To whom it may concern, Crossfit Active Performance has changed my life for the better.  I've been a member of Active Performance for seven and a half months. I'm very happy I joined and became a member of the family.  When I'm told i "cant'" perform an exercise it's because I'm not physically able to perform that exercise at that present time.  The Active Performance coaches do not want the athletes to injure themselves.  This is when Scott and the other certified coaches come in play and train me and many other athletes to better ourselves and work towards to completing the exercise that at one point I was not able to perform.  Isn't this the point of becoming a better athlete, gym member, a human being? Having the support of a coach, family and friends to better ones self? When Coach Scott is motivating you, encouraging you, educating you, yelling at you to be heard above the many barbells and weights in motion during a workout of the day, it is because he wants you to succeed, wants you to give it all you got and finish feeling great about yourself.  Coach Scott is a walking fitness encyclopedia. From diet, nutrition, exercises, rest, rehab, sleep, etc. he can answer your questions or will find out for you.   All the Active Performance coaches will help you, guide you, and educated you whenever you ask them and the box is filled with elite competitors that can also help.  If the coaches are not able to help you or answer any of your questions, they will help you find the answers.  So far I've only had very positive experiences at Active Performance. To the person who had a so called bad experience, you are mistaking, I will correct you ,they will tear you down that's the only way you will rebuild.  If you don't like being pushed to your limits and getting your a*s kicked, there's always a Curves healthclub you can join.  I don't know of any restrictions at Active Performance.  You reserve your spot on the day you want to work out, simple as that.  The fees are the fees, pay for the services you ask for.  Active Performance is very reasonable for what they charge.  All in all one of the decisions of my life to join Crossfit Active Performance.

Crossfitt active performance is a safe place to workout

I've been crossfitting for over a month and I can honestly say that the coaches are more then qualified in their ability to lead the cross fitting classes by perfect example of what to do and how to perform the execution of the workout. I've never felt safer or more trusting to any collection of coaches ever in all my 6 years of working out.
There is no safer and more well structured place to work out then cross fitt active performance studios.

Very hard to believe this report.

AUTHOR: Greg Peters - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

I've been a paying member of Active Performance since they first opened their doors. From the beginning they have been hands down the best CrossFit facility I've ever trained at.

I travel a lot for work around the world and have chances to go to many different CF gyms and coaching techniques and styles, and I will be the first to say that these guys are awesome and pay attention to every detail which 90% of CF guys don't do. They offer a very hands on approach to training and if you want to take it to the next level and compete they will provide you with competitive programming, which no other gym offers. In addition to that they take interest in each and every one of its members no matter your ability.

About 8 months ago I had a very close friend who was 420lbs! 99% of gyms wouldn't give him a second look, but Active not only wanted to help him but they did it in a super supportive and positive way. He's told me on numerous occasions how thankful he is to be a part of Active and the caring and quality of training he's received. Needless to say he's LOST over 110lbs naturally in 8 short months.

In speaking about Scott, he's one of the most knowledgeable, positive, and helpful CF coaches I've ever trained with. He's helped me immensely and never once put me down or made me feel like an "idiot". There is almost nothing he doesn't know around health and exercise, I am always shocked by his level of passion, enthusiasm and knowledge he has about the sport. I've watched him train many people and NEVER once have I seen what is being suggested in this post.  In addition, my girlfriend had joined having never done crossfit and she really enjoyed Scott's approach and coaching style. I feel this posting about Scott is completely opposite from reality.

Lastly in regards to the "deceptive advertising", that is completely un true. The way it works is that you get your first 4 weeks for $49, however, if you have never done CF before you must attend 7 onramp classes over the span of 2 weeks. These classes are designed to walk you thru the basics of CF; how movements are done, what does CF mean, its intent and easier workouts. They are setup so that you graduate into the regular classes so you don't injure yourself and are educated. Most gyms out there have maybe 1-2 of these types of classes then throw you into the pack and I can't tell you how many times I've had friends or colleagues get hurt b/c they weren't slowly taken into the classes. Once you take all 7 classes you can attend ANY of their regularly scheduled classes and aren't limited as this post implies.

If you base your decision to not give Active a try solely based on this negative post you are losing out. I encourage you to go check out the other gyms in the area then compare them to Active, you will QUICKLY find out that Active is the best overall experience around.

This is a completely inaccurate report

AUTHOR: RyanMiller - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, December 13, 2012

Unfortunately a bunch of half truths do not add up to full truths, this report is misleading and manipulative due to out of context statements. I am also a new Crossfit Active Performance (CAP) member paying $175/month and I am absolutely thrilled by the value.

Here is what is actually happening. When I started the "on ramp" course I paid a special price of $50. That $50 includes 6 training classes, a graduation class, and the balance of the month being able to attend any class as an active member. The 6 training classes can be completed in 2 weeks. There are on ramp classes every day. Class 1,2,3 on M,W,F or T,Th,Sat, then 4,5,6 the next week, same options. Graduation on the following Monday. Of course you're limited on what classes you can attend while you're learning the fundamentals, many of these movements are complex and require training, you cant just jump into a regular class without going through the on ramp program. Ive been training in a traditional gym for 10 years and every on ramp class taught me something important. As far as not being able to join in regular classes before you spend the $175/mo, thats false. I was able to attend any class I wanted after graduation for the rest of the month, just as was communicated at the beginning. What Im sure youre not able to do is attend any classes after the month is complete without paying for it.

Regarding the comments about Scott Pfeifer, again I disagree. Scott and the other CAP coaches are extremely knowledgeable and truly care for their students. I am a stubborn, highly skeptical individual who questions everything, and I have never been disappointed with their instruction and answers to my many questions. Regarding the quote: you are not capable of doing this, that sounds out of context. Many of the exercises we do give the athlete the flexibility to choose which weight they want to use. Because the coaches are so observant of what everyone in the class is doing at all times, theyre not going to let someone move an improper weight at the risk of injury. So in that regard, the original reporter is correct. The goal at CAP is to increase in strength and ability, not become injured and weaker. Ive never heard a coach address an athlete in a discouraging manner.

My experience at CAP has been 100% positive. In 3 months Ive gained significant strength and stamina. The trainers are phenomenal and the equipment/facility is top notch. We have several members who compete that have gone to other crossfit gyms (boxes) in the past, and Im constantly hearing that CAP is head and shoulders above the rest. I would recommend Crossfit Active Performance to anyone, any age, any ability level.
