Dana Moody, Dana Holt: The Ripoff Landlord Queen! Dana Moody, Holt, bedrooms for rent, security deposit,Carson California

Back in September I had moved from Missouri to California and had set up an account on Roommates.com to find a roommate. I was contacted by Dana Moody through an email on my account, asking if I would be interested in moving into 1 of her available rooms. When I viewed the pictures of the place on her profile they were dated earlier in the year and she had a photo of her living room that looked mostly empty except for one table and one couch, and another photo of an empty looking backyard patio in the back.

Her profile stated that she was 23, so I was assuming she was about my age. I told her that I would be possibly interested in the place if it had 3 things; cable, internet, and a washer and dryer. This was not the only place that I was looking at and this would be the deciding factor of me saying 'yes' or 'no' to the house.

So I spoke to Dana on the phone and she did not sound like a 23 year old. She sounded alot older, but I didn't want to be rude and ask her how old she was (in hindsight, I should of!)So I proceeded with asking her about the 3 things and she stated that yes, she in deed had cable, internet, and a washer and dryer. Despite her mature sounding voice, she seemed to be a nice person. Given the fact that I was still in Missouri at the time, all I had was her word-as-bond.

So I decide to go with her as the move-in choice.The rent would be $600 a month and there was a $600 deposit. Immediately she asks for the deposit. I Quick Collected the $600 and stated that I would be moving on the 1st of Sept.

Fast forward to the move...I drive over 1,300 miles from Missouri to California. Dana is made aware of my coming to move in. 2 hours before I get there I try to call her to let her know where I was, no answer. I call the house phone, I call Dana Moody's cell phone and she doesn't answer. I'm getting worried that this lady has just jammed me for my $600 deposit.

I get to Carson, CA about 11:30pm. I don't know anyone and I still have not got in contact with Dana Moody. I get to the address on 600 E. Turmont and all the lights are off, there is a gate in front of the door, and the mailbox is taped up with a note telling the mailperson to send mail to the P.O. Box "I am not going to tell you again". So it looks like no one lives at this address. I'm basically HOMELESS the 1st night I get to my "new home". Luckily a friend of mine from college let me stay at his house. I continue to call with no answer. Very upset, not knowing what to do.. I just drove all these miles and I'm hoping it's a misunderstanding.

That morning, Dana's "niece" calls me saying that she left phone at her house and that she went to work. Dana drives the metro bus graveyard shift. So I eventually meet Dana and she said there was a key under the mat of the door. I told her there was a gate in front of door that was locked, how was I suppose to get in? How was I suppose to know there was a key under the mat??

And by the way, Dana is not 23, when I saw her, she was more like 45... a complete shock!

Once I got there, the house was completly empty! It looked like she just moved in herself about a month ago, she told me she had been living at that house for 10 years... she did not let me breath without asking me for the additional $600 for the rent. I didn't even know where the bank was yet!

So when I get there, there is no internet, there is a tv that has no cable..not even basic channels and the washer and dryer was so old, my clothes smelled about as dirty as they did going in, except now there was an overpowering smell of washing detergent over them. We sat in complete silence for over a week, waiting for the cable guy to install the internet and cable!

There was also another guy renting out the other room that had moved in 10 days before me. He stated that Dana had been telling him that she was going to be getting the internet and cable since he had been there! So he was sitting in silence even LONGER! When she finally called the cable guy, she lied about her age with the person on the phone again, she stated that she was born in '73, which I KNEW was another lie!

She had an old white Mercedes possibly a 1992-93...with 2006 expired tags on them that she still drives to this day.

10 days after being in the house,the other male roommate and Dana had a disagreement. Unbenounced to me, when I walk in the door, she asks me, "Am I staying or moving? I need to know now." I told her "I just got here about a week ago, if I decide to move, I will let you know." She then tells me that "this can go both ways, I can give you a 30 day notice and you will be gone!" I'm thinking where is this coming from? So I told her, if this is the case, then I'll find another place to live. Her and roommate didn't see eye to eye about having house guests so she got upset with me...

In the 10 days I had been there Dana would do certain things after I thought I was trying to help all 3 of us out. And when I would ask her if I was doing something wrong, she would shut down. She would not talk and say things like I will give it to you in writing in the morning. I've been doing this for YEARS, I know what I am doing and would never just have a general conversation about anything. It always felt like she was "hiding" something. I told her that if I am doing something wrong, please let me know. I can't fix it, if you don't talk...it's 3 people living here now. Her being a mature woman, I was hoping she understood that concept....but Dana didn't.

Dana Moody would always stay hidden in her room. Dana smoked weed like 4-5 times a day, and whenever she opened her bedroom window, it would blow right into my room! When I would come home, my room smelled like there was a "puff, puff, pass" party in there all day! Honestly, if she was honest with her smoking in the beginning, I would know what to expect, Dana's profile on roommates.com even stated that she didn't smoke.

So me and the other roommate decided to be roommates and get an apartment. When I asked her about our deposit, she said that rent was due and that I was not getting my deposit back but the other guy was (which turned out to also be a lie). We moved out Sept 29, 2008. Rent was due on October 1st. We were not even in the place for a month!

The only reason a landlord should keep a deposit would be if there were any damages or if there was unpaid rent. Neither of that was the case. She again stated to me, she has been doing this for YEARS...basically telling me, I've been getting over on people like you for years and no one has done anything about it. But she hasn't met anyone like me before!

I wanted to put her on blast for her weed smoking, lying, and stealing. I came looking for a new experience from Missouri, and I defiantly got it! If you run across this lady by the name of Dana Moody or sometimes she would sign her name Dana Holt, BE CAREFUL! She is one crooked, dirty, lonely, middle aged woman who will eventually get what is coming to her. God does not like ugly!
