My fiance and I financed a car from Deals on Wheels in Febuary of this year. Our other car had broke down and we needed a car ASAP. Boy did they see us coming.

First red flag- Only having 500.00 to put down they assured us they could put us in a "reliable vechicle". Our total down payment ended up being a little over 700.00. But they "assured us we were getting a reliable car and they were even throwing in a 3 month 1,000 mile warrenty.

1 month later the engine in the car blows up. We contact the warrenty company and our car goes back to Deals on Wheels service dept. and they replace the engine under the warrenty stating to us they are putting a even better engine in the car with less miles then the oringnal and they will even extented a 60 day warrenty on the engine they put in.

Second red flag- When we requested reciept of the "new engine" and where it came from and the exact milage on it to report to DMV as we were suppossed to. They gave us the run around and did not produce it. At this time I also requested a CarFax report as they said they would provide and to this day I'm still waiting for that.

Now this brings me to late Apirl and this "great engine" that Deals on Wheels service put in out car begins to tap and make very loud noises. So we contact the service dept. and are told to bring it in right away they do not want anything to happen to this engine. So we bring it in and are told the bearings are bad in the engine they put in and the whole engine needs to be replaced. So again we are without a car for over a week while they get us a "new engine".

While this is going on I again request a reciept of where this new engine is coming from and exact milage so it can be reported to DMV and a CarFax again. In the process I also contact the Attorney Generals Office to find out our rights since there is no Lemon Law on used cars in Delaware.

Here we are now in September and as of August 30 the car we purchased has blown up again and was left sitting on the side of the road on a offramp exit of Delaware RT1. We have only had this "reliable car" for 6 months. I contacted the sevice dept. of Deals on Wheels the day it broke down again and they laughed at me when I asked them if they recalled who we were and told them what happend. They informed me that there was nothing they could do for me and refused to fix it. I informed them that I was still waiting on receipts from the other 2 engines they put in and milage reports, a CarFax report,

I was contacting the Attorney Generals office again about this and where they could find their "reliable car" on the side of the road and that they could stick it up their behinds until they spit metal for a month because we are stopping payments and they will not get one more red cent from us.

I also failed to mention that their Fiance Company has charged us over double for this car and we are stuck with a charge of 10,000 for a car that was only worth 3,000 blue book value. The list price on the car when we got it was a little over 5,000.

We have been taken. If there is anyone else out there who this has happend to or a lawyer who thinks we may have a case please contact me. Any help or advice you can give would be great.

To anyone who is thinking about going to Deals on Wheels please don't they are a total rip off for the following reasons.

1. Most of their used cars and trucks are well over 100,000 miles and have had 4 or more owners.

2. They get almost all the cars on their lot from auction out of PA

3. They can put you in a car but the finace and interest rates are very high and you could purchase a new car for the total of one of their used ones.

4. The service department is a joke. They get most of their parts from junkyards and off of other cars that cannot be fixed. They will not produce receipt of purchase of any part they install.

5. They promise a CarFax report with every purchase. Ask to see it before you buy. After researching CarFax myself I found out our car had over 17 owners. Would you buy a car that was that used???

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

AUTHOR: Diana - (USA)

Unfortunately, I know ALL TOO WELL what you are going through, as Reb's Used Cars in Cecil County did almost the EXACT SAME THING to me and my husband when we were down and out and I was pregnant.  Nevertheless, I am a law student, and I will be completely honest with you.

Go through your paperwork and see if you can locate ANY documents regarding the warranty you mentioned.  If all you had was a verbal agreement, you unfortunately, have no case.  If you can locate any documentation that states you vehicle was under warranty at the time you broke down on Rt. 1, I would file a claim in court.

Verbal agreements tend to hold no water in court because it is merely he said, she said banter to a judge.  You can contact the DMV, but all they will do is ensure that you DO have the right to obtain receipts for service or parts needed on your car.  It will probably take you physically going into the finance office and demand receipts for those services; by law they are required to provide them.  If you do not have them, this also may prove difficult to present in court because the judge may assume you simply lost the receipts.

I hope this helps, at least a little.  But, try to get those receipts and warranty information, and I'd say you have a case.
