I recently received my free annual credit report from Trans Union and saw that this company had pulled my credit report 2 times for collection purposes. I called the ph# that I found for this company on your website and left a message for a return call to discuss this matter.

Today a representative with this company returned my call. He immediatley began barking orders for my social security # and when I questioned him about his need for that info, he began to scream at me, talking over me when I tried to discuss this matter.

I finally gave him my SS#, against my better judgement, and he said the collection was for a $300 balance on a store charge card. That account had been included in my 2000 chapter 7 bk. When I asked when why they pulled this file 2 times, he became extremely agitated to the point that I could not get a word in and he never provided an answer to my question. He also said that I must enjoy filing bankruptcy. I finally just said I'd have to report them to my attorney and this was followed by him screaming at me to DO IT!, DO IT!, SEE IF I CARE!

At that point I hung up. Now I'm afraid they'll continue to pull my credit at will, he now has my SS#. What is my recourse to stop this from happening again?

Credit Tip

AUTHOR: D - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 25, 2007

I have been through this type of situation. What I did was contact the major credit agencies direct. Told them to block all pre-approval requests for running reports, place a "personal verification" block on your file, and notify the agency that the restriction from pulling your account without your written signature is to be placed on your account.

Notify the agency as well that one of the companies listed under the BK has been pinging your file when there is no need to due to no open account with them. When I did this on mine, I have not had any inquiries except ones I initiated show. You do have recourse.

In addition, if they are included in the bk, I would contact your BK lawyer and the Trustee of the courts that this company has violated the no-contact regs. If they had pulled your report, they knew it was already BK'd.

Hope this helps, and no, I am not a lawyer giving legal advice, just my situation and opinion.

This is the latest tactic used by collection agencies.

Collection agencies that can no longer report you to the credit bureaus are now placing hard inquiries on credit reports. This is the latest thing they have found they can do to jeopardize you. In this age of computers, all they have to do is program the computer to pull your report every so many months. They may do it forever just because they can.

The only one who can get an inquiry deleted from the credit bureau is the company that placed the inquiry. There are websites that have inquiry deletion request letters you can use. I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try.
