I just purchased my new Dell a month ago.  I was having an issue with turning off the touchpad.  I called Dell.  They said, "Your computer does not include a software warranty.  In order to help you, you need to pay $89 for a software warranty.".  Fry's Electronics claims they carry the same warranty as HP.  But when I had an issue with my HP - even a year after purchase, they were happy to look into it.  So, Dell is basically trying to rip people off for $89 when they have any issues with a new product.

Your difficulty is due to your unfamiliarity with the operation and [software] settings on your computer. In the computer industry it is typical for the manufacturer’s warranty to be limited to hardware failure only. Equipment operation and software related issues are not covered under warranty.

When someone purchases an automobile is it the manufacturer’s responsibility to supply the owner driving instructions? No, of course not.

You're dumb as crap.  If you had enough intelligence to respond you would know that when you buy a computer you also pay for the software.  Do you think Microsoft just gave them the software?  And they just gave it to you?  

And you seem to be under the impression that I got the computer for free.  They're not free.  I did pay for the computer therefore I did pay for the operating system.  Go f yourself and spend your apparently useless time somewhere else and stay out of other people's business.j

So, I BOUGHT the hardware and the software.  I didn't buy just the hardware and put the software on it.  Learn how this stuff works before you start spouting off unintelligent answers - and, once again, mind your own business.

Those people do get paid, by the way, probably 2 dollars an hour in India.  Now, who's the cheapskate?

 Well YOU work for a living so HOW MUCH do YOU think THEY should charge?? NO ONE works FOR FREE!!! EVERYTHING COSTS MONEY!!! Its NOT about customer service it IS about them working to GET PAID!!!! Kinda self entitled of YOU to expect that your HARDWARE warranty is going to cover a SOFTWARE issue. Two SEPERATE functions of a computer!!! Cant run one without the other. So exactly what do YOU consider a fair price to fix YOUR problem?? Im guessing YOU EXPECT FREE SERVICE because YOU purchased a product from them. IT DOESNT WORK THAT WAY!!!!! YOU have a problem and it will cost $89.00 to fix said problem. YOU are just a CHEAP SKATE who doesnt feel that THEY should have to pay for THIER problem. YOU have NOT been ripped off. YOU are trying to rip THEM off which just makes YOU a cheapskate scammer. Then the IRONY is that YOU make a RoR on THEM but its CLEARLY showing YOU to be nothing but a scammer. Kinda funny how that works. Since YOU seem to enjoy the web so much then FIX IT YOURSELF!!!!! Im pretty sure with a little digging YOU can find which setting YOU will need to adjust.
