After following a Craigslist employment ad, I decided to give Dialogue Direct a chance. They send you out on the streets of whatever major city you find them in, and you basically canvas the crowds of people for $22 per month sponsorships to a charity called Children International. For the most part, they are a legitimate business, and there are employees there gather regular paychecks.
They boast that you can earn 600-1000 dollars per week, and offer performance pay based on the amount of sponsorships you get. After a seemingly successful day, I was told that I had earned $330 for seven sign ups. Coupled with the $10 per hour pay for 7 hours of work, I had earned $400 in one day! Exciting right? After returning to the office I was told that my 7 sponsorships would be bumped to 6, due to the fact that if an individual signs up for more than one child, the charity views it as a poor investment based on their cancellation statistics. Why I should be punished for the work of others before me remains a mystery, but that didn't matter because to date I have NOT RECEIVED PAYMENT for any of these sponsorships.
After countless calls to my supervisor, the Portland office, and the New York headquarters I have yet to even get a response regarding this issue.
Needless to say, I no longer work for this company, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone looking to get compensated for their work. They basically run the place like a n**i concentration camp: bring in droves of potential workers every week, fire those who fail to gather 3 sign ups in their first two days of training, and toss aside whoever is left as soon as their daily sign up average falters. Once you are out the door, good luck trying to collect what they owe you. The management is too busy stuffing hash in their bongs to even return a simple phone call, at least here in Portland anyway.
But don't worry, it's all for the sake of helping the children!
Give me a break.

Hi, I just wanted to make something clear, I am an ex - employee and I honestly don't see how anyone could have issues with this company. I used to work for the Portland branch in 2008/2009. Yes it is a highly competitive line of work with a high turn over rate, but they do this to ensure they have the best of the best representing their company. I never had any issues being paid for the work I put in. All the people running the buisness we're highly professional and fun, and the experience was one in a life time. If you love children, and you are very good at talking with the public; this is the job for you.

I've read all of the complaints about this company on here and for some reason there are only 3 complaints by people that got fired. I don't believe that these report are legitimate and a useful source to be based on. This is just a way to retaliate against a company because you're inadequate to do your job. You knew what you where going into and must have a tough skin for rejections. Just because you need a job doesn't mean that any job will work out the way you want it to.
I've worked with DialogueDirect about a year ago and when they told me that it was face-to-face fundraising, I knew what this entails since I've done direct marketing (door to door sales). This isn't a job for everyone, and it really challenging emotionally and physically. DialogueDirect never put themselves out there saying they are a non for profit organization, but they help non-profit charity organizations.
I always got paid and if there's any discrepancy about my pay, I would let them know and they have always fixed right away.
I just think it's soooo sad for those that got fired to come out and talk a lot of crap about a company that is doing good for a cause and giving people the opportunity to work.

DialogueDirect NOT a scam

I worked for DialogueDirect coincidentally in Portland a year ago and everything written in "Disgruntled Dialoguer"'s report runs contrary to my experience. I just googled them to look up some old friends, and I cant believe the things Im reading. I started my employment with them the same way, I replied to a craigslist ad and the phone representative called me, told me about the job and set up an interview. There were no surprises or tricks up their sleeves, because the "administrator" who interviewed me told me all about how the pay was hourly plus performance based bonuses, and that you had to sign up three new sponsors a day from your third week on with them. I knew the job had expectations and goals, what job doesn't?
My first week there was nerve racking, but the manager and my team helped me through it. Its alot like a sales environment, there is incentives, teambuilding games, and motivational speeches. But if you didn't expect that, why did you take the job? The charities DialogueDirect works with are counting on them to bring in new sponsors and help these needy kids all around the world. Those street fundraisers or "dialoguers" help facilitate that goal.
The Disgruntled Dialoguer"'s report says that he was penalized for signing up the same sponsor twice. Sorry dude, all jobs have rules, from what I remember of my time there, they had a training process and a code of conduct, where they tell you the "do's and dont's" of the job.
Oh and the pay was awesome. Payroll check with your hourly every week, and bonuses every three weeks. There is a three week verification process of the donor, but those bonuses DO come through as long as those credit/debit/checking accounts were valid. Disgruntled Dialoguer, maybe instead of taking the passive aggressive approach here, you should have called their headquarters and asked what the result was of those sponsorships.
One final thing..Disgruntled Dialoguer mentions the turnover at dialogue direct, describing it with a derogatory inappropriate term that does a disservice to the memory of holocaust victims that I refuse to repeat, but I will say that its a performance based environment, just like sales, there is going to be turnover of the people that dont meet the goals. A company cannot keep underperforming employees on its payroll, it bankrupts them.
It sounds like "Disgruntled Dialoguer is exactly that disgruntled, but its likely not for the reasons he/she stated. I advise anyone to take "Disgruntled Dialoguers opinion with a very large grain of salt.
