Directv I canceled their service about 2 months ago and had filed a complaint of why I cancelled service early. I was not happy with their service and the way they handles their billing issues and the representatives that I had to contact MONTHLY to fix my billing issues. I noticed on my bank account today that they used my debit card from paying online in the past to deduct $393.58 out of my account WITHOUT my authorization. This has now hurt my bills that will be coming out and cost me more money in the long run. I called to set up payments but they said they couldnt help me because the amount was already authorized through my bank. How is it legal to deduct money without the authorization of a user? atlanta Nationwide

I cancelled Directv service about 2 months ago due to being extremely dissatisfied. They were overcharging and I had to call in monthly to get this fixed. I did file a complaint of why I was not happy and asked that early temination fees be waived all or at least some . I noticed on my bank account today 4/24/17 that they dedeucted $393.58 out of my account WITHOUT my knowledge or authorization. I am a single mom who barely gets by as it is and now this? I call my bank and of course there isnt much they can do because Directv took my debit card that I had used to pay online with monthly. I have to file a dispute and it may be denied. I called Directv to see if they could reverse the charges and of course they said no.

I wished I was able to file a class action lawsuit because I know they do this on a daily basis to people in financial binds like myself but I cant pay for a lawyer. If there is anyone who reads this who can help me get this lawsuit going then PLEASE for the love of God, help me fight this company and put a stop to this.

Information for you---

As far as authorizing this transaction, unfortunately you did. Directv has a policy of keeping payment methods on file. By paying with your card you allowed them to keep it on file and also to charge any final debts to it.

My concern for you is that this might have been a charge for equipment and not the early termination fee. I didn't see in your report anything about the return of Directv equipment If you cancel service and do not return the equipment within a very short period of time, they (per the agreement you made by using/paying them) will charge an equipment fee. If so, it's possible that they will still hit you with the early termination fee. I hope I'm wrong about this and I hope this works out for you but you might want to find out exactly what the $393.58 was for.

No the representative told me it was POSSIBLE that I would be charged but also stated that they would let me know 10 days BEFORE they charged my account that it would be charged. I did not get any kind of notice that I would be charged anything.

I noticed on my bank account today 4/24/17 that they dedeucted $393.58 out of my account WITHOUT my knowledge or authorization.

Sorry but you admit you knew there would be an ET fee because you had called to see if the fee could be waived in all or part.  Also, when you signed up for the service you agreed that this ET fee could be withdrawn.  The fact that it came at an "inconvienient" time has no bearing in this.

As for your desire to file a Class Action Lawsuit, once again the media and TV has gotten the best of someone.  The only parities that make any money in a Class Action lawsuit are the attornies.  The "lead" plantiff can sometimes come out a bit ahead.  But any member of the "class" may be lucky to get a month of free service after having the suit go through the courts for 2-3 years.

If they violated any terms of the contract you may have grounds. But you don't need an attorney or to file some huge "Class Action" lawsuit.  Most likely your claims would be well under your states Small Claims limit where you can sue them in court without attornies for a small amount. Although if you look around you may be able to find an attorney who will give you a short low cost/free consultation about how to go about it.

But now if your only dispute is that you are a single mother who can't afford the service, then unfortunatly you don't have much of a claim against them.

Remember when YOU first signed up? Remember the three things YOU had to sign? Did YOU read what YOU were puting your name to? No, probably not or YOU WOULD KNOW that on the last page one of the last items YOU initial is a clause stateing that YOU give THEM express permission to deduct from whatever account YOU have on file. So since YOU didnt read what was presented to you, YOU are ignorant of it. So YOU THINK its a scam but its NOT!!! What YOUR POST tells everyone is YOU COULD NOT BE BOTHERED TO READ!! I read through the entire service contract TWICE while they installed my service. WHY didnt YOU READ??? Its a HUGE question!! Didnt mommy or daddy teach YOU any better??? Did NO ONE instruct YOU to READ any document that YOU are asked to sign?? Maybe this should be a lesson to YOU and YOUR failure to READ!!! THIS is the cost of YOUR CHOSEN AND WILLING IGNORANCE!!! Not the fault of DTV that YOU DID NOT READ!!!
