As others have found, DJ Edwards is a deceptive and dishonest businessman. Upon looking back, I unfortunately made 5 of the top 10 mistakes commonly made when hiring a contractor: 1. Hiring the lowest bidder 2. Not having a detailed description of the project in the contract 3. No guarantee 4. Not insisting on a lien waiver, and 5. Not having an agreed upon timeline for the project.

HOWEVER, the extent of the deception, dishonesty, and poor quality work would still probably not have been foreseen.

As an initial example, even his rebuttals to previous rip-off reports are dishonest. In his rebuttal to his first filed report (April 2009), he claimed to be an upstanding member of the BBB. Upon fact-checking, he, in fact, joined the BBB in June 2009, which was the month after he claimed to be an upstanding member.

In his second rebuttal, to yet another complaint, he again stresses his company is accredited and in good standing. FYI, it takes 30-45 days once a complaint is filed for it to appear as a complaint filed against his company, which has been registered for about 60 days. Check back...I have no doubt this will change.

In addition, DJ points out that he is registered with Texas Residential Construction Commission (TRCC), accredited, and is also in good standing. His current status, actually, is "failed-to-timely-renew". In addition, he has zero registered projects with the commission.

He, as a member, is required to register any residential construction projects that either change the size of the living space or cost more than $10,000. I know for a fact he has had multiple jobs (unfortunately, for those homeowners) that meet this requirement. More likely, he failed to register so he can have plausible deniability to any horrendous work or dishonest practices.

As a contractor, DJ will agree to one thing face-to-face, however will refuse to document any of the agreed upon actions and, ultimately, fail to follow through. In addition, when confronting his sub-contractors on the work that was supposed to be performed, it seems they, too, are being mislead by DJ's deceptive practices.

Bottom line, do not believe or hire DJ Edwards. The I agree that the previous 2 reports are substantiated and have merit.
