My husband and I were trying to get things in place so we could retire in a few years. One of those items was a new roof for our house. We wanted a metal roof so it would last our remaining lifetime. We live in a very small town named Poetry Texas located outside Terrell Texas so I searched for a roofer in our area. We located a roofer named Mike Kelley from Dollar Construction & Roofing LLC. Mike came out and met with my husband and myself. Mike was a very nice yet chatty individual who appeared to know his business. He looked around the house and said he would get back to us in a couple of days which he did. On 5/18/2016 he provided us with an estimate and we chose to let him do the job. It rained for a couple of days after  our initial meeting so we didn't think anything about nothing being done with the roof. Mike asked that we pay him half up front so he could obtain supplies and order the metal. We explained to Mike that we would be obtaining the funds from our retirement  account and would let him know as soon as possible when the funds would be available. We received the retirement funds and on 5/27/2016 I met Mike and gave him $8000.00. He stated things would start to happen soon. On 6/12/2016 nothing had happened so I texted Mike and ask him to meet us so we could go over some things and be sure we understood everything that was going to take place and when. Mike stated he was too busy to meet with us. This was my first clue along with the knot in my stomach that something wasn't right. There were phone calls between myself and Mike and between my husband and Mike but the stories didn't seem to be the same. On 6/16/2016 he text that he was obtaining a Google Earth blow up snapshot of our roof so he could put the measurements on it and send the cut list to Mueller or an Austin company to cut the metal. I was knowledgeable about a Google snapshot because we were actively involved in our daughters house being damaged by the tornado that hit Rowlett on 12/26/2015. What an experience itself !!!!On 6/20/2016 Mike said he was getting measurements that day and would have an order within an hour. This method of communication and promises have  continued over and over. On 6/29/2016 I contacted Mike's wife Gwen because Mike was not answering my phone calls or text. She told me Mike was unavailable but she promised to get my roof done.  On 6/30/2016 Mike called me and we have been on the same roller coaster ride without any resolution. He came to our house on 7/4/2016 and again promised to get this job done, assuring me that he was not a thief or telling us a bunch of lies. We asked him if he could refund our money on that day and he said he did not have $8000,00 to give us,  but showed us two checks from other individuals in our area that he had received checks to do their roofs as well, one of those checks in the amount of approximately $70000.00  During this time I have found several reports on Mike and Gwen from previous individuals such as ourselves that have been scammed by him as well in Washington, Georgia, Florida, Texas and I am sure if I continued my search the list would go on and on. This is a very short version of the number of times either I or my husband have had conversations via text or phone with Mike without any work.

On 7/18/2016 I text Mike as one last ditch effort and he assured me that he had someone who would be out to measure the roof and he stated he had everything lined up. I text him last evening and again today to ask him who was coming to measure our roof and when. He is not returning any text messages. I have also text Gwen today without a response.

I do not know what to do, obviously we have been played for a fool by this character, still need a roof, and have no money left in our retirement . Has anyone delt with this individual and had the issue resolved?
