I've had several bad experiences with the service department at Reno Dodge but this latest was my last. I'll take my Promaster to Carson City before I'll let Don Wier's touch it again.

About a year ago I took my 1yr old Promaster van in after my DEF light indicated I need service. I was told that I'd hit a chunk of ice and damaged the DEF pump, and it needed to be ordered. I own Top Notch Handyman Service LLC and my business is completely reliant on the use of my van. After several days of missed work the pump came in and was installed. I was then informed that the whole tank needed to be replaced also and there was no tank within the United States. More missed work. They finally found one and when it came in I was told that an empty box had been shipped. This ineptness was unbelievable! Finally, after 5 weeks of missed work (and over $18,000 in lost income), I got my van back. I complained to the Chrysler Customer Service and they investigated the situation. I was given 3 yrs of free oil changes and tire rotations as a consolation for my inconvenience.

Fast forward to this January. I took my van in for an oil change. Late afternoon I get a call informing me that whoever changed the oil last had crossthreaded the drain plug and another would have to be ordered. I told Ben Owings that Reno Dodge changed the oil last and was told that couldn't be because the old filter was an off brand and they used Mopar. Another day of work lost. I rescheduled the oil change for another date and called Chrysler Customer Service again. Reno Dodge had been the last one's to change the oil (which I knew). I took a picture of the old filter(Tecnocar brand) for reference. After taking another day off for the oil change I went in to pick it up and get things settled. Again, Ben insisted that they weren't the last ones to change the oil and was going to charge me for the day's work. This included $65 for a drain plug. I refused to pay and told him the date that they'd performed the work so it WAS their mechanic that crossthreaded the drain plug. He said he'd talk to his manager to see what they could do. After a few minutes he told me they like to take care of their good customers (yeah, right!) and wouldn't charge me anything. When I got home I looked at the oil filter and couldn't believe my eyes. It was a Tecnocar filter, the exact same one he'd claimed wasn't used by Reno Dodge! After lying to me and being deceitful, I can't trust Reno Dodge anymore. If I need warranty work done now I have to take it to Carson City or California. This is a major inconvenience!! Believe me, I'll be telling anyone I can about my ordeal with this 2nd rate service dept.

Use An Independent Mechanic

AUTHOR: Perry Mason - (United States)

POSTED: Sunday, February 11, 2018

Go out and find yourself a good, independent shop and become a customer. I do not mean Walmart, a tire/battery chain or any other chain. Look around, ask around. Their are great independent shops around, usually owned by a mechanic or former mechanic. Independent shops offer better customer service, much better pricing, integrity, honesty and care about the customer more than ANY slimeball car dealer. You don't need to take your car to ANY dealer for service. You have experienced the exact reason why!
