Dons Auto Don's Auto, Don Killen, Don's Auto and wrecking Does Shady Work Will NOT Back Up Work!! Des Moines Iowa

January I came to IOWA which is my hometown, to plate my new car (as I am in TX for school). I contacted Don's Auto Mechanic shop (I have been here before) to check out my car. Dec, 31, 2013- I took the car to the shop and I told the mechanic that I had someone look at the car before I left and he noticed there was a bearing leak by the side of the car where the exhaust was and so asked him too look at it and fix it .. I also noted to him that it had an oil leak and asked him to check out the rest of the vehicle. He called me later said the bearing (pinion) was a little dry and needed replaced, and that the oil leak was not too bad but it needed brakes and everything else looked fine. I told him to fix it and call me when the work was done.

Mechanic called me said the work was done I paid 266 (roughly) to have the work done. I drove the car home and then packed the car and left for TX. I got to Oklahoma and noticed the car was making a noise. I barely got the car here to where I am staying and the noise was real loud. The gentleman that I had look at it before I left looked at it again and said that the pinion had been replaced but the leak had not and now the rear end gears were out on the vehicle.

Jan 6, 2013 - My finacee called Dons to tell them of the issue, they said that I had to call. I called shop and talked to Michelle who told me that her mechanic said it was fine when it left the shop and that they filled the bearing oil/grease. I explained to her what the mechanic here said, and she stated "that she cannot take the word of another mechanic" basically emplying that they would be lying. I then told her well if you want other opinions I will be happy to tow it (at their cost) to a few more mechanics to get their take on the situation. She said they were not going to do that, and that I would need to car to Iowa again. I asked her how we might do that, as the car is not operable at the moment and had to be towed. I told her that either I can take it to a mechanic here and send them the bill OR they can pay to have it TOWED back to Iowa and fix it. Michelle then said that she had to speak to her dad, and that she had my number and would call me back, have not recieved a call back as of Jan 9.

My fiancee called back to the shop on Jan 9 and the mechanic told him that he filled it and it was not there issue. (I still have not recieved a phone call from them). The shops here are asking 1200$ to fix the rear end gears now, the shop could at least refund all of the money I gave to them and help cover the portion left due to [REFIX] my vehicle since it is obvious that it was not fixed correctly... Personally, I am not a mechanic but I do know that the only way [rear end gears] go out on a car is if the pinion bearing is torqued to tight and/or the fluid had not been filled - or the initial issue of the leak had not been fixed and the bearing oil/grease leaked out and it became dry. Either way, I need my car FIXED properly and I think that as a mechanic or a business you should stand behind your work, and fix it when it was not done properly.
