Douglas Sarchette, DNS Construction $17,000 RIPPED OFF by BARN BUILDER, breach of contract Belle Missouri

My husband and I hired DNS Construction, also known as D and S Construction, Douglas Sarchette, Belle, Missouri, 573-859-3881, to build a complete pole barn November 25, 2003. He told us he had 35 years experience building barns. I paid him in advance for the materials, $17,000, the rest to be paid upon completion of the barn. We had a signed contract, stating the building was to be definitely completed by March 28, 2004. My husband and I were told by Doug Sarchette the building would take 3 weeks to build and he and his 3 crews worked in any weather. He did not start the building until April 7, 2004.

We called over and over, heard numerous excuses such as: numerous friends or relatives died, friend of a friend or relative died, truck broken, have to take sick relative of a friend to the doctor, mother nature, frozen wood, ground too wet, can only buy wood from one supplier, truck will get stuck, personal problems, have to take daughter to appointment. The list is very long, goes on and on. I heard many times "its just part of the party" and laughing. He has not been here since April 26, 2004. When he left that day he told my husband he would be back Wednesday 28th, but did not show. He never built the barn.

My husband and I went looking for him, and found he lived in a run down rental house. Not where I would expect any contractor to live. We were angry and I cried, then knowing for sure we had been ripped off. I have always been a trusting person, but no more.
I have reported him to the BBB, MO State Attorney General, and the police.

As of today, 12/19/2007, Doug Sarchette has NOT paid us back any money he owes to us, even though we have a judgment against him for $19947.00. He still runs ads occasionally on RollaNet claiming to have 35 years experience and all the references you will ever want. Guess he forgot to use me as a reference. Seems he has no intention of ever making things right by paying us back.

This has been a learning experience for me. I will never trust anyone again. Please BEWARE OF ANY CONTRACTORS ASKING FOR MONEY UP FRONT FOR MATERIALS. DON'T PAY UNTIL THE JOB IS DONE!

If this sort of thing has been done to you, don't let the contractor get by with it. Take them to court. Report them to the state attorney general. Call the police. Help to keep them from doing this to some other trusting person.
