I do not recommend using Dr. Dani McVety of the Lap of Love, Lutz, Florida (Tampa Bay area) to euthanize your pet in home.  In 2011, I spoke with her, by phone, to have my dog put to sleep.  I appreciated that she came to my home on short notice, but that's all I appreciated.  Dr. McVery was not as professional as I expected and she certainly wasn't the compassionate vet she advertises.

Dr. McVety did not discuss what to expect when we spoke by phone. (She could have done so in a minute or so).  She entered my house talking about her stethoscope which she was wearing.  While I was embracing my dog during the euthanasia process, Dr. McVety said "Be careful, she can vomit."  She demanded payment immediately after euthanasia. - She could have either taken my credit card information over the phone or could have waited an hour or two.

In summary, I do not recommend using the services of Dr. Dani McVety of Lap of Love, Lutz, Florida.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Look out they charge 400 bucks for a 4 min appointment

AUTHOR: annon - (United States)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 06, 2018

They charge and arm and a leg just to say you need to put your dog down. i advice to go to your own vet its 43 bucks at a banfeild pet hospital and they will give you the right choice. 400 bucks a viset with this group. its crazy they take advantage of people because pets are the world to them. Their is a nice spot where they are going taking advantage of people who have little to no money https://millerreport.us/lap-of-love-a-crock-to-high-in-price-they-take-advantage-of-people/

3-time Repeat Customer, Very Pleased with Lap of Love Experiences

AUTHOR: DHoffman - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, September 06, 2018

I have used Lap of Love's services 3 times now, and have been very pleased with each experience.  I've had both Dr. Dani and Dr. Nil come to my home in different years to help a sick dog or cat cross over, and every time I have found them very compassionate, caring, and supportive.  Of course, they expect to get paid for their services, and this can be difficult to handle on top of the raw grief I feel, especially minutes after my friend dies.  However, I've had many pets over the years, and I've used other vets and another mobile service in the past, and none of them were as kind as Lap of Love.

I just called Lap of Love for my 16 yr old cat with Renal failure & liver problems, and this will be my 4th time using their services. Even the receptionist I spoke with, Mary, was compassionate and understanding.  She clearly gave me the total cost to expect, and gave me the option to use a check when they come, or pay by credit card, cash, or whatever.  Personnally, I think preparing the check in advance and paying them after they have provided their services works best for me, and I just mention when the vet arrives to ask me for the check (and not my wife!), because I know I will forget if they don't ask, and my wife won't be able to think about money through her grief.

Whether it ws Dr. Dani or Dr. Nil that came out, each time they carefully went over what to expect, what they would do, and how everything would go.  I can't recommend Lap of Love highly enough, they have been great.  That's why I was shocked to see this negative review, and I'm so sorry this person felt their experience was so bad.  As a suggestion to anyone looking into a service like this, I would suggest a little advance preparation on your part, like decicding how you will pay them, will go a long way towards preventing these bad feelings.

My Lap of Love experience

AUTHOR: Srisarasvati - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 03, 2015

I am so sorry that the writer of the initial report had such an unpleasant experience with Lap of Love during such an emotionally charged time, but I don't think the service should be condemned for that.  Dr. McVety had a great idea for a much needed service and was probably one of the business developers.  It may be that she is more effective as a businesswoman than a direct care provider.

I have not (yet) used Lap of Love to euthanize my dog, Dusty.  I have received Hospice care through Lap of Love from Dr. Vasse, who has been simply wonderful - competent, compassionate and supportive.  She has also been mindful of the cost of services and has done her best to minimize those for me.

I am pleased that Lap of Love advertises the cost of its euthanasia and Hospice initial visit but I do think it should also advertise the cost of subsequent Hospice visits, if those are needed.  I was not shocked by the cost but it was more than I expected and I would have appreciated a heads up about that because I'm sure we (Dr. Vasse and I) would have come up with an alternative plan.

It's very sad for me that my actions were interpreted in this way.  At such a grieving time, most loving pet owners have great difficulty communicating and rarely understand or comprehend what I say.  This is another reason I take such pride in thoroughly explaining the entire process on my website in addition to my usual explanation at the home.   The above comments are taken out of context and interpreted inaccurately.  I was at this client's residence within 1 hour of him calling me and the swiftness of his pet’s medical needs was no doubt a difficult thing to deal with; something I do not fault him for one bit.  I take immense pride in my bedside manner and uphold my veterinary oath by providing the most compassionate and comfortable methods possible.  I have no control over medical conditions (including vomiting) that existed before my arrival and that have clearly evolved to such a point to require such swift, immediate, and extreme action as euthanasia (which literally means “good death”).  The medications and application methods I use are the most researched, approved, and trusted in the industry.  Regarding payment, this is always a difficult thing at such a tough time.  If the pet is suffering, I will always attend to the pet before handling any paperwork.  As I am usually driving, it is impossible to handle this before.  I honestly wish there was an easier and simpler way to address this part of the appointment and I do my very best to never interrupt the human-animal bond at such a difficult time.   Perhaps one day I will be able to do this for free.  But until then, I must do my best to make this as simple and peaceful of a process as possible.

Sir, I'm so very sorry you felt it necessary to expand on this once again.  I'm sorry your experience with your little one was not perfect but please remember that the grief you experienced that day (and beyond) was not my fault, that was simply your immense love of your little girl and exists completely independently of me.  All information that you claim I did not say, I indeed explained to you during my visit... you were nearly impossible to communicate with that day, as many loving pet parents can be.  I don't fault you for that one bit, we each have our mountains to climb.  Very best, Dr Dani
