Draws Financial Sending a "real" check for fake lottery winnings. SCAM! Etobicoke Ontario

I received this letter in the mail for supposedly winning "in the second category of Sweepstakes and Lottery Draw held on January 3, 2008". Included was a real check for $4, 850.00 to "help pay for the Non Resident Government Tax (GST). Plus they stated another name to call, the tax agent, and warning you must contact the claim agent before you do anything.

I actually called and gave them my claim number. There was a real person on the other line (and he didn't sound like he was from Canada!) and he said to call back in two weeks when his "director" would be in. When I asked which lottery this winning was from he just said "if you had entered in any lottery in the past 2 years, you are then automatically entering into this one..." but he still didn't give me a name of the winning lottery game. Be aware - if you didn't physically enter into something yourself, do not accept so called "automatic winnings".

Do not fall for this scam - I have heard other reports of banking checks, then the check turns out to be fake and then its too late to report it to the bank and then you're responsible for the lost money!
