First of all I want to let you all know that we have never ever missed a payment to this company.
If I could turn back time we would have never bought a car from Drivetime. They raked us over the coals after "approving" us wanting to know the names and phone numbers of 3 (three) family members, 3 personal friends, employers, etc. Granted, if a person skips out on them they would need to know numbers of people to contact who might aide them in recovering their money or vehicle, but this company is just over the top when it comes to calling their customers.
Our car note is due every other Friday in the amount of $190.00. Actually, I am a co-signer on this loan for my boyfriend...I always make the payments. We moved out of the Dallas area to Houston in April 2008 and when we moved I contacted Drivetime and gave them our new address and my boyfriends new job info and told them that his paydays had now changed and we would be making the truck payment on Monday rather than Friday because that is how he is paid.
Every other week they call us wanting to know why the payment wasn't made. Twice they have called my son at work because they didn't see a payment posted yet on Friday and there was no answer at our home number. That was the reason they gave me as to why they called my son on his job. They call all the time. If you are not home and they get an answering machine they will have no qualms about calling at 10:00 p.m. at night or even calling people whom you have on your reference list. This is absolutely ridiculous.
If we were 3 business days late paying our car loan and they had exhausted all of my numbers trying to reach me (they didn't even try calling on my cell # that they have for me) I might understand a bit more. We have never missed making a payment to these people and are never later than paying on the Monday following the Friday it is normally due. One time we were in Alabama at a funeral and they were unable to reach us on a Monday morning. They called my son again at work wanting to know if he knew where we were. These people are absolutely ridiculous.
Like I said earlier, I had given them my boyfriends new pay day schedule and they refuse to make the payment due on Monday, one business day later than what we had signed for. I would never recommend you purchase one of their vehicles, not only for the exorbitant amount of money you will be paying for a vehicle and the huge interest rate and high payments, but for the way their customer service handles their business. They do not communicate to each other in the office, do not make notations in your file and just last payment time I received 2 phone calls in one day from them asking the same information as to why I had not made the car payment yet.
I despise the Monday mornings every other week now, when I know they are going to be calling and harassing me to make the payment when I always do make it after 3:00 p.m. every other Monday. Never again and if you don't want problems with these people...don't buy from them either. Another 4 years we have to deal with them. I think I'm going to be sick now.
Linda is the worst one in the credit department. She loves her job.

The wonderful world of computers.

Did you know the computers automatically dial the phone numbers of those who are late, then when the phone is ringing the call is transferred to a rep? That's why you keep getting calls, even though you have made payment arrangements. Just answer the calls and tell them you have already made payment arrangements. Once you talk to them, they usually suspend calling you for the rest of the day.
Also, when you called to tell them the payday was changed, did you just "let them know" you would be making the payments on Monday instead, or did you ask IF you could. If they refuse to change the due day to Monday, then a payment arrangement was not made.

Never missed a payment?

It sounds to me like you are missing a payment every other week. You state that you told them your boyfriend's pay date had changed, but Drivetime did not agree to the change. Do you think you can just decide to change the terms of a contract without the other party's consent? Get real!
Loan outfits like Drivetime lend mostly to desperate borrowers who don't stand a chance of getting a loan anywhere else (i.e. high risk). Any company that does business in this sector is expected to be aggressive with customers who don't pay in a timely fashion. I've seen a lot of outrageous reports about this company on this site, but yours just doesn't qualify. You have unilaterally decided to change your due date without the lender's consent. In effect, you're paying late every other week and you wonder why they bother you? Give me a break!

You Have Several Options.

You can always try and get a loan from a credit union and pay off Drivetime or you can sell your vehicle and get a personal loan from a bank or credit union for the balance. Of course you problably paid far more than the car was worth when you dealt with Drivetime. All of these companies that "rebuild your credit" seem to charge far more than the retail value for a car as stated in many Rip off Reports.
How come you are paying every two weeks. I've never financed a car and paid less than monthly.

Just some good positive advise for you keyslammer -
You said, "Twice they have called my son at work" - You can do the following to stop this. Have your son tell them that he can't receive calls at work and to stop calling. If Drivetime calls you again, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commissions. Also, send a certified letter to cease and desist all calls to your work place as well as your sons/boyfriend. By law, they are NOT allowed to contact you. If they do, you can file a law suit. Visit www.ftc.gov and look under press release icon and it will show you of a collection agency that must pay a huge fine for the same behavior Drivetime is doing. Drivetime is breaking the law because they harass and give idol threats to the vehicle being repo'd. You can't say that either. If they do, they must pick it up. If they don't, once again you file suit.
As for your referrences, you can have them tell the account rep/mgr. to not call them again. If they are called again, they too can file a complaint with Federal Trade Commissions.
The reason why your called every day is because the account is due every two weeks. If you didn't pay on or before the due date, you will get a call on Monday morning. Reason being, the account rep. must complete a daily gap of either 1-21 days past due accounts or 22-45 days past due customers. This gap is daily till you pay. Which means, if you don't pay on Monday, you will apprear on the gap again on Tuesday, etc. till you pay, which is cause for the calls everyday. Now, they are required to make 4-5 calls per account, which means if you have a home/cell/work number to call, they will attempt those first. After attempting those numbers, they will call 1 or 2 referrences to leave a message. Now, if you are on the account reps "ROLL", which means the account rep is being held accountable for a certain percentage of accounts that must pay before a certain date, you will be called 5 times a day to make every effort to collect this account. The more the rep collects, the closer that person is to meeting a weekly goal. Now if the rep is under pressure from his/her Loan Mgr. that he/she will be held accountable, which means a write up or verbal warning, you can guarantee that rep will tell your referrences/job/family/friends that you owe this debt and at jeopardy of losing your vehicle if you don't pay. Remember, it is AGAINST the law to disclose your information to anyone other then you. So, if you don't pay and your account is 30 days past due, that account rep will call your Landlord/boss/neighbors/aunts/uncles, etc. and tell them of your debt. If so, you need to file a lawsuit. The rep will threaten you that you can lose your vehicle if you don't pay. That isn't true. Drivetime makes money when you are LATE. They will keep you in that car as long as they can to gain the daily interest that accummulates when your late each day. One thing to keep in mind. If you notice that your getting more then usual calls during the last week of the month is for one reason only. They are trying to bonus and each acct that is over 11 days past due affects the bonus. So, if they keep calling you and calling you, its not to advise you that your in default of the contract, it is because they are out to make a bonus.
One thing that the sales people don't tell you. Each day you are late, you accummulate daily interest. Which means, when you pay the last car payment, they will tell you you still owe $900.00 or so. This is all interest for being late. Yes it is in the contract, but it is never told to you when signing.
Also, to do a due date change, you must sign paperwork and give them a pay stub to change the due dates. If you haven't done that and need to do so, bring in a paystub that is less then 30 days old. It will be done.
If someone new is calling you then who usually calls you, doesn't mean they are from corp unless you are 60+ days past due. The local dealerships outsource the past due accounts to other dealerships in other states to call to see if contact can be made. If that rep reaches you, they will say they are calling from corp and your attention is needed to your debt and payment is due today. This isn't true. You can ride for 60+ days and corp will work with you and set up arrangements with you, because they too are trying to bonus and want to keep you in the car.
So in general, Drivetime will disclose your personal information to your Landlord, neighbors, friends, family and even strangers. If you don't stop them from calling work, they will tell your co-workers as well. Drivetime DOES NOT record any phone calls going out nor in. You can bet that the Loan manager is sitting there allowing the rep to be extremly rude to you and others. But, you have rights and need to act on them. Remember, visit www.ftc.gov. Also, type in Drivetime complaints in your google address and see how many lawyers and customers want to get a civil suit.
I searched out local clerk of courts and find so many law suits against Drivetime, Ugly Duckling.

#2 UPDATE Employee
Read Your Contracts!!!

I have worked and am a customer of Drivetime (bought my car before i became an employee) I understood the contract upon signing and i dont think that some of the people read what they are signing. In response to the quote that we called at 10pm thier time, that is a lie, all the stores close at 8:30pm and the corp office is only there till 9pm central time. As per the contract that your b/f signed it states that all payments will be made on the due date. ( i have no problem making mine) o and we dont take a verbal that your pay dates have changed, if we did that everyone would pay when they wanted to, We need to see proof that the paydates have changed and thier is process that has to be followed to change a due date. So quit the bashing if you cant tell the truth.
Thanks
Nunya

Here are some useful numbers to have!

When you call to Drive Time, you are calling the operations center. It is at
7300 E. Hampton Ave Suite 101, Mesa Az. 85209
Here are some Rats that work for Drive Time and their contact numbers'. These people work in the warranty department; you know, the rats that decide if they will repair the junk they sold you. Angela Powell 480-632-3083 and her cell 602-391-9466, Chris Camp 480-632-3814, Teresa Gomez 480-632-3857, the direct number to the front desk in 480-813-5200. These numbers should help you get to talk to a rat that you can vent your frustration. All the warranty department and customer service extensions start with 3???. IF you dial 480-632-3and three other numbers you will probably dial someones extension in warranty or customer service. Now you do not have to call the 800 #'s and get the run around.
