I recommend passing this on to everyone you know who may use a DVD by mail service [or just everyone you know].

Reference (((Redacted)))~days=9999 DVDHype (dvdhype.com) has has some serious billing issues.

Basically when an account is canceled billing doesn't stop for at least some customers. And their ticket system is problematic at best. There is no listed e-mail and sending e-mail to the addresses listed in the whois record gets no reply [in my experience].

Credit card companies aren't much help either. Basically since they charge the same amount every month they become a 'pre-authorized merchant,' when I asked what that meant they told me that they could continue to charge the card forever even if I canceled or changed numbers. Which is total crap! I really felt this was fraud and at best very unethical.

Here is what I found out:

Their president Bruno Lauria no longer has his 514-739-0061 number or it is always busy.

I do believe that this is a home based buisness but will confirm this once I get the records back from the Federal Govt.

So my story:

Signed up for the 'two week free trial.' You have to cancel within a week of the billing cycle. So the two weeks are only 'free' if you intend to keep the service or if you cancel before the end of the first week. I canceled when it ended. So I'm out $25 + tax for that. (expensive for around 3 dvd's [amount out apparently depends on location]).

3 Months after I'm still getting billed for the service which I haven't had since I canceled it. They have no phone, address or e-mail contact info on the site and the tickets I submit (as I have been doing since I canceled) just get ignored or lost or something. I have also sent e-mails to info@dvdhype.com and blauria@dvdhype.com with no reply [got those from whois record].

Then yesterday after much work I found the above second phone number (cell phone) and gave it call; no answer after 3 hours of trying. But today, BAM! Got a lady who answered and when I asked for Bruno she passed me to him. He was very surprised that I was having problems and asked for my account name and said he would take care of it.

It did not get taken care of. I sent e-mails and kept copies of them and also sent a letter to the address listed in the whois. I sent copies to visa and they reversed charges.

THIS IS A BAD COMPANY. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!
