I am a recent college graduate who has been desperately searching for a job. I saw an ad online at careerbuilders.com for a entry-level marketing position. I went on the initial interview and was accepted that day for a second interview the following day. I went back to the company for a day-long trial interview, which consisted of me going into the "field" to "market" the products of the company. The "field" consists of store front locations (i.e. supermarkets, lowe's, schools, etc.) and the "marketing" consists of soliciting people to make donations when they leave the store.

The company is unable to take straight donations, so they have to sell products (i.e. T-shirts, mugs, toys, bracelets, etc.) to the individual whose money then "goes directly to the charity". In reality, a large majority of the money made through this form of marketing is spent on administrative costs (you get paid based on what you sell, approximately 35% of what you sell), and the charity receives very little of the money.

The job promised 12 weeks of training before I could open my own branch, where I could train people to do the same "field" work. Unfortunately, my conscience will not let me solicit people to make at least an $11 donation, when I know only a dollar will go to the charity. why not tell these people to go online and make a straight donation? I just wouldn't be able to sleep at night, but you can decide for yourself.
