Economic Freedom Corp Bait and Switch then Outright Lies Phoenix, Arizona

They went through their spiel about how easy it would be to work this business and bring in easy income; this is when I should have hung up. He had me sign onto the web and took me to the Visa sight and showed me a section under "merchants" and said they worked with Visa in that category. I signed up for the $500 package and the $24.99 per month for the web site. 

I received a call a couple of days later and the guy attempted to talk me into adding expenses. He told me there was no way to work the business without buying one of these packages. He added that this company was the company that made Visa who they are today. 

When I confronted him with the discrepencies between what he was telling me and what I had been told earlier he became angry. I was told that he was recording the conversation I could be sued for slanderfor what I was saying about the company and I was lucky he was going to give me a break and not call the company lawyers.

I responded that I hoped he was recording the conversation because I'd been told the previous conversation was recorded and then it would be easy for anyone to see the lies. He hung up on me. I was never able to get anyone on the phone after that.

I called Visa's fraud  department and they actually put me on hold and called the company to ask questions. She came back on the line to tell me that Visa had nothing whatsoever to do with that company.

I had to cancel my credit card (report it lost) and get a new one to stop them from making monthly charges to it. I also sent a registered letter telling they no longer had my permission to make additional charges to my card.

I count this as a lesson (an expensive one) in stupidity and will use it as a refresher course for what I already knew: 1. Don't give my credit card number to strangers who call me !!!!!  2. Check out a company thoroughly before I decide to become involved with them. (If I had called Visa first this would not have been a problem.) It also helps to run the idea by a trusted friend or family member. 3. Sleep on it. If it's a good idea today it will still be a good idea tomorrow. Any high pressure sales tactics (This price is only good for today!) signals a problem.
