I checked this company out, I thought, before using them. At the time, there was only one complaint on this site. I thought they would do a good job and help me with my tax troubles.

It took them several months to complete my tax returns. During this time, I got a registered letter from the IRS which made me panic. It took seven phone calls to get through to somebody who could help me. They said, after the fact, that yes this would happen, and not to worry, they get copies of all the same notices.

So, the returns finally get done, but now, the IRS is rejecting them due to a very simple mistake- the tax preparer only put down one exemption for my husband and me instead of two. Yes, my husband and I are two different people.

The response was: "Please send me those notices so that I can send them to our tax preparer who worked on your behalf. I do apologize for this. Please let me know of anything else that may come about."

Now, I wonder what happened to: "not to worry, we get copies of all the same notices that the IRS sends to you"?

We are low-income people and my son had to help us get started with this company by paying the down payment. This money that we have paid them was very hard-earned. I am sick thinking about what might happen to us if the company makes simple mistakes such as this. I also see now several more complaints, and I checked their BBB status and noticed that there were several reports, even though they are "Satisfactory" in status with the BBB.

Effectur- the plot thickens- IRS files Final Notice of Levy while they do nothing

AUTHOR: Dorothy g. - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 07, 2009

So, last week, we received via certified mail, final notices of intent to levy from the IRS.

Today, we get a letter from Effectur, from a Pamela Holmes, claiming that I had not provided all of the documentation that your company needed, that I had not responded to requests for information and that now my case has been closed, and that it will cost me another $250 (which I don't have- we are now waiting for our food stamps to be approved)- to have my case "re-activated" !!!!!!!!

The last communication with Diane Dean, the worker who had been handling our case, was on the 24th of June, during which she indicated that they had gotten a copy of our 2008 tax return. On June 8th and 9th, there were several emails between Diane and myself to make sure that Effectur had everything they needed to turn the case over to the enrolled agent. Diane had indicated that everything was all set.

Bottom line- the majority of this company's employees are a bunch of incompetent thieves. From the first idiot, Christina Segar, who constantly "lost" our documents, had us sign tax returns with the wrong number of exemptions, couldn't understand that I had changed my name when I got married, etc. Diane was better, but wanted us to somehow materialize thousands of dollars to pay the IRS so that she could get us into an "affordable payment plan of $500 a month"; when our monthly income is around $1500 per month.

I will now be going to the taxpayer advocacy group, where I should have gone in the first place, to try and get help at the 11th hour. That is, if I don't end up dead. I am a heart patient, and the stress that has been created by this company's latest episode of incompetence is literally killing me.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS- AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE- because they ARE THE PLAGUE~~~~~~

My faith is returning

Since I wrote the original report, things have happened. We were assigned a new case manager, who sounds like she is a lot sharper than the one we had previously. Our returns were corrected to show the proper number of deductions, and re-submitted to the IRS.

I am hoping for a good resolution.
