El Rey Apartments - Burlingame - CA Ramona Burich, Robert Talbot, Barry Gordon, David Adams Homophobic Slurs, Harassment, Bullying, Legal Threats, Eviction!!! Burlingame California

I have rented a half dozen apartments in the past 2 decades without ever having landlord problems and have left with recommendation letters from the landlords stating I was a good tenant and would rent to me again.  But at El Rey Apartments I was yelled at, harassed & bullied, repairs were declined and delayed, received "legal action" threats, and was discriminated due to my sexual orientation. 

During signing my lease I was asked several inappropriate personal questions by resident manager Barry Gordon, such as my marital status, whether I had a girlfriend or boyfriend, and my nationality.  I felt uncomfortable but since I had already given my notice to my previous landlord I did not make an issue out of it.

I had told the resident manager Barry Gordon upon seeing the apartment that there was a large 2 feet by 2 feet hole in the wall under the kitchen sink, and was told he would repair it by the time I moved in, but was not repaired, which lead to wild spider infestation in my apartment due to being on the top floor and having an attic and rooftop directly above me.  The hole was repaired 1 year later after experiencing over 2 dozen jumbo sized wild outdoor type spiders!  I also found out from the previous tenant that the back of the bathroom closet was open and again spiders from the attic and rooftop would come into the apartment!  When I brought this to the attention of landlord Ramona Burich during my first 6 months' of tenancy, she stated she was not willing to take care of it and would give me back my security deposit right away if I was willing to cancel my 12 month lease and move. 

Also, 3 months after moving in, I asked the resident manager if he would install window screens to prevent large mosquitos and spiders from entering the apartment as the apartment was surrounded by several tall trees all around, and I was willing to pay for the cost.  It took management 1 year to install basic window screens, and after being yelled at several times and threatened by legal threats by resident manager Barry Gordon.

6 weeks after moving in, I was approached in the laundry room by Barry Gordon's best friend (and tenant) David Adams who told me Barry had told him what kind of work I do and where I work, and started asking me more personal questions about relationships, homosexuality, religions, and so on, and I felt extremely uncomfortable as there was no reason for this tenant to hang around me for 20 minutes in the laundry room watching me do my laundry and forcing me to have a personal conversation with him!

6 months later this tenant David Adams started yelling at my friend whom I had invited over, and began a fight with him, almost to the point of assault.  Next day I was told by resident manager Barry Gordon that David Adams had a big fight with him and did not want my friend to visit me, and Barry Gordon told me not to invite my good friend to El Rey Apartments. 

During my first 6 months' of tenancy I was questioned several times by Barry Gordon in the presence of David Adams while I was doing my laundry if I had a girlfriend and if I had a boyfriend, probing my sexual orientation.

During my 11 months' tenancy, while doing the laundry I was approached by resident manager Barry Gordon and was yelled at for over 15 minutes and ultimately threatened legal action/lawsut to be taken against me by him if he ever got fired because of me, because I had complained to landlord Ramona Burich about his objections/delays for necessary repairs in my apartment that should have been done before my move-in.

There came a time I was laid off from work and became unemployed, which lasted for over a year, so I decided to relocate to another city and live with a friend until I got back on my feet, so I gave a 30-day notice to management.  Less than a week later I was contacted by a recruiter who set me up with an interview and was hired!  Upon telling resident manager Barry Gordon that I will not be moving and to rescind my 30-day notice to vacate, I was yelled at repeatedly stating "You're out of here!  You're out of here!  You gave your notice, you can't stay!  You're out of here!!!".

I called landlord Ramona Burich that evening asking her to rescind my 30-day notice and she bacame extremely upset and began yelling at me and refusing to rescind the notice, telling me I must leave within 30 days.

Landlord Ramona Burich began harassing me with phone calls, text messages, e-mails, letters, threatening me with taking "legal action" if I don't move within 30 days.  I had to take time off from my new job to get legal consultations which cost me money and lots of time off from work which ultimately upset my boss and was fired from my job!!!

A couple of months later an EVICTION NOTICE was posted on my door!!!  For the first time in my life I was "evicted"!!!  Now I have an "eviction" in my credit report!
