I booked a trip o expedia.com and purchased the cancellation waiver for $29. Due to changes in my schedule I needed to cancel the trip.

I called expedia and was told I would be refunded the non-airfare portion of the trip and that I could get flight credit from American Airlines; there had been no mention of flight credit or other fees when I purchased the original package. I agreed to this and I cancelled the trip.

I and then called American Airlines and was told that due to airline rescheduling fees less than half of my flight credit would be available for future use. I called expedia and was told that this information was provided to me, which it was not.

Expedia seems to care very little about their customers and I will no longer use them for booking travel.

Not Expedia's Fault---Airline imposed restrictions

AUTHOR: Trish - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, January 01, 2005

Expedia's cancellation waiver is great but DOES have restrictions that are clearly noted during the booking process AND on each customer's itinerary.

In the case that you had to cancel your trip, the cancellation waiver covers all cancellation penalties for your hotel and other land-portion parts of your package. In the case that you have purchased Expedia's "Special Vacation Airfare", you would be refunded in full for your air portion as well. It sounds like you had purchased published airfare which is subject to all airline rules/restrictions.

Since Expedia sells flights for the airline industry, the credit for future use is given by the airline directly. You bought a non-refundable ticket which means, you will not recieve money back---cancellation waiver or not. You are subject to "exchange" fees from $25-200 based on the airline. That is why you did not have "full credit" to use for future travel.

It's always important to read the rules and regulations for items purchased online.
