Back in July 2014 I decided I didn't like the factory system in my 2013 Juke. I was working in Morristown and had heard of Extreme Car Audio and their "SOUND COMPETITION" Van so I thought "This is the place to go." Was I EVER wrong.

When I went in there were two guys there who "suggested" some stereo equipment for my upgrade. These guys know what they are talking about, right? They do SOUND COMPETITIONS, right? No worries, right? WRONG.

One of the dear Stereo Technicians came and picked my car from my work and that afternoon they had the car back to me. Lil simple plug and play, right? NOPE

What started out as an upgraded stereo has turned into a ngihtmare for me. I bought 4 SoundStream Speakers and a SoundStream Amp, at these "STEREO TECHNICHIANS" suggestion. I told them I wanted LOUD, that I liked to listen to my music LOUD.....OK, they told me........and I paid them UPFRONT and thought "Wow, these guys do stereo competitions, they have my back...." WRONG.

I got my car back and immediately there was a problem. The sound in the front speakers jumped from the left to the right speaker. There was a high amount of distortion and the sound was cutting in and out. It was Fourth of July and I thought OK, I'm SURE this is just a glitch, I'll take it back after the holiday.

I called the shop and went by for them to give it a listen "Oh, no problem it's probably just a loose wire" they said.....WRONG again.

I get the car back and immediately I noticed "This stereo is not any louder than the factory stereo. What is up with this?" I was asking some questions to a guy I worked with, who HAPPENED to be FRIENDS with the guys at Extreme Car Audio. I was telling him what was going on and he told me that the STEREO TECHNICIAN had turned down my amp........TURNED DOWN MY AMP???? Surley not. I WANTED LOUD, REMEMBER?

SO I call them up and tell them about the delima I'm having and where is the stereo that I purchased? The STEREO TECHNICIAN said he THOUGHT he told me about turning down the AMP, maybe he forgot. I asked him WHY would you turn a system down when I was very specific and told them I WANTED LOUD. I told the STEREO TECHNICIAN that I just felt like I had paid over $800 for nothing and I may as well take the stuff out and sell it on EBAY to the first bidder, that the stero was just a piece of junk.

OH DID THAT MAKE HIM MAD. He said I was "calling his work junk" and that I "coud just F.. that" and that they "had to use DEMO SPEAKERS IN THE FRONT BECAUSE I HAD ALREADY BLOWN THE FRONT TWO SPEAKERS AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYMORE SOUNDSTREAMS IN STOCK." He said "HE WAS GOING TO TURN MY AMP BACK UP BUT AFTER I CALLED THE STEREO JUNK I COULD JUST FORGET IT. "LADY I AM THRU WITH YOU" he yells into the phone and he hangs up.

OK.....my contract says I have a stereo under warranty. My contract says that I bought NEW SPEAKERS NOT DEMO SPEAKERS. But what do you do when you feel like you can't go back there due to the STEREO TECHNICIAN and his ANGER MANAGEMENT ISSUES?

So here I am, probably just going to write this down in my SHUDDA KNOW BETTER book and take the loss. I reported this to the Better Business Bureau but there was no response, however the initial complaint was noted and is still on file.

This is product misrepresentation. I think I was overcharged. I KNOW USED SPEAKERS WERE INSTALLED IN MY CAR BY THE TECHNICIANS OWN ADMISSION EVEN THOUGH I PAID FOR NEW ONES.....I've not been able to do ANYTHING about this. Why did they not just order me a new set of speakers and replace the ones I allegedly "BLEW" with new? HOW DO YOU BLOW SPEAKERS IF YOU BUY A SYSTEM WITH AN AMP AND IT IS SET UP RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE???

I really will probably let another shop clean up their mess. $800 down the drain. I just hope any customers that come there are not dupped like I was.

The real story

AUTHOR: Buddy Beckner - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, February 02, 2017

First- we picked up and delivered the vehicle. This is a service that other shops don't offer. We explained to the customer that no matter what the system, the standard rule of audio is that you can only turn your volume level to 75% max. Anything over that is distortion and will flutter and blow the speakers. Not our rule, just an audio rule we have been taught for 25 years. The system was very loud and clean and she was well pleased when she left. The first complaint was the next day about not being able to "turn the volume knob to the max". We again explained, as we have to thousands of customers, that the volume could only be turned to 3/4. A few days later she had blown the front speakers.

We picked up the vehicle from her work and replaced the speakers at no charge, and again warned her about turning the volume too high. A week or so later she had blown yet another set of speakers. Now keep in mind theat we have sold a couple of hundred sets of these Soundstream speakers and never had to replace any and this was two in a couple of weeks for her. We again picked up the vehicle and replaced the speakers. We actually had to take the speakers out of our display because we had depleted our stock. We did this so the customer could have a working system.

In reality, the warranty only covers defective product, not abuse, and would only cover replacement once. We replaced these twice, parts and labor, even after knowing it was caused by abuse. We did adjust the amplifier so as to not have this continuing problem. The system was still very loud and clear. The customer called us numerous times, verbally abusing anyone who answered and no matter how we tried to help or explain, said we sold her junk and didn't know anything-etc,etc. The installer finally told her, after numerous abusive calls, that we were done with her. Just read her complaint-- it's easy enough to figure out the problem. Buddy Beckner
