Store Manager working for family dollar are being placed on a salary in violation of labor laws.  Very little of your time is spent actually managing.  The title for a store manager should actually be hard laborer with keys.  The position doesn't come close to the statutes defining an exempt position.

When hired you are told by the district manager that you need to work 48 to 52 hours per week.  Within a few weeks you start being told that you should be putting in 60 to 70 hours.  You don't get warnings for only working 52 yours but you are constantly harassed and berated for not doing more.

The first DM I worked for was my DM for 4 years.  During this time he constantly harassed and belittled me.  I could count on one hand the total number of times that he had something positive to say.  This created an extremely hostile work environment and forced me to work many 60 to 70 hour weeks just to avoid the the harassment.

After my first four years, my DM was fired and a new one took over.  Hoping that the new DM would be better, I quickly found out that he was far worse that the first DM.  He excelled at harassment, making threats and lying on a daily basis.  It was like descending several levels in Dante's hell.  My labor budget was lowered to such an extent that I would have to work 80+ hours to stay in budget.

Last February he terminated my employment.  I soon found out that he lied about my termination and said that I quit.  He even intimidated my assistant manager and made her testify that I quit.  I have been fighting since February to receive unemployment.  I also lost two weeks of earned vacation.

I am not a slacker or a quiter.  I served 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including a year of combat duty in Vietnam.  I have service connected disability that is a direct result of my service in Vietnam.  I worked for 15 years for a large manufacturer and rose to middle management in less than five years.  I've been in the workforce for 42+ years and until I started working for family dollar I have never been given a warning or a negative fitness review. 

I would not recommend family dollar for anybody looking for employment.
