I've only been working at Family Dollar for 4 months or so. During that time, I was an excellent employee. I never complained of scheduling, hours, most work (I'm pregnant so they were somethings I couldn't comfortably do.), I am excellent on the register and kept my area of the store clean and well stocked.

Well, while I was on my lunch break, I got horrible heart palpitations, became very dizzy and lightheaded, and had difficulty breathing. I became violently ill and called my Assistant Manager up to inform her that I was going to the emergency room to get checked out. The first time I talked to her she told me it was okay, to take care of myself. Well, about 15 or so minutes after that initial call, she calls back and says the Head Manager said I have to return to work and finish my shift. Basically stating the manager said I wasn't allowed to seek emergency medical care. Obviously, my child's safety is far more important to me than $7.30 an hour. I was seen immediately and put on a heart monitor, blood pressure monitor (my blood pressure was through the roof), given an EKG, and then given a sonogram to check on the state of my baby. Thank what ever gods there are, that other than an elevated heart rate, my baby was okay.

During the time I was there, I was diagnosed with panic attacks and a hyperventilation disorder linked to it. I was given a doctor's note and told to rest and if, and only if, my symptoms have gone, am I okay to return to work the next day.

Well my manager is PISSED, that she had to do her job while I sought medical attention. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get fired for going to the emergency room. I wouldn't be surprised though, since these same people ignored my doctor's orders to sit if I am having bad cramping. These people kept me on truck duty, lifting heavy boxes while cramping, and even if I had to sit due to the pain, I was yelled at and told to keep working. And lets not forget when I had horrible morning sickness, told the manager where I was going (to the bathroom to puke), and she STILL screamed at me, because apparently she (and every other manager there that day) were to good to get on register and work for the 5 or so minutes I was puking my guts up.

Seriously folks, don't work there. If you're pregnant or have any other physical/mental disability, they don't care, nor will they listen to common human decency in regards to problems or limitations. I've already contacted the EEOC, and was told that if they did anything to me, I'm fully within my rights to sue. And trust me, I will. If you are currently working there, get out as soon as possible. It's only a matter of time before they do something terrible to you as well.
