It is ridiclous that a person has to work so many hours for small pay, while I was manager of a store I had several employees that worked under my care, but like normal not enough payroll to give them enough hours to make a living with or support a single family income. The Managers take tier pay out of the payroll as well, which is usally half of the payroll. after working the week and putting in 70-80 some hours that doesnt come up to much considering over time.

some times my cashiers made more money than me at least they got paid over time.

The legal system states that the retail companies do not have to pay out the over time to salaried managers, I worked very hard every week, never missed truck day or door to shelf and put out stock. I did not get the payroll to have anyone but 3 with me on truck day, and 2 the following sometimes more but not to often. Often I worked for 3.00 and hour and 15 hour days. Never got the help needed and many times my DM would say she would come and help my crew out on the days that I was out and never showed up, nor called to offer assistance.

There is no rewards for working for this comapny, the DMs get away with lies, no payroll, allowing certain managers to have over payroll budget with out being written up or fired.DMs will turn thier heads to certain people allowing company policy to be abused.

Certain DM's have set people up for being fired, or to get written up to get rid of them. working for this company you take a chance not only on your health, over worked and promises to work 52 hours, but you never know if you will get arrested for some frude they came up with to remove you, no proof but thier say so. this is not what the company names offer becasue they should really take the family out of it they do not stand by the people that give so much to it instead they find ways to either fire you, dismiss you, or you get so stressed out you quite. store policy work only when all is applied and used . not bend and abuse to fit thier needs.

I no longer work for them but tried to collect my unemployment and appealed it but working under war like conditions and abusing the managers is legal and allowed where is the laws to protect us, after all a brich of contract is just that.but still the courts allow this, and osha as well does not keep them towing the line. I know you have all heard this before and yet it still goes on what a shame to waste good people like that.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Finally some truths

AUTHOR: Bridget - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 31, 2005

I have been reading all of the posts regarding Family Dollar and I have seen so many that are so far off, it makes me insane. I have felt like I was defending Family Dollar and that is not what I wanted to do. You have said it accurately!!! The only exception is that the DM's can not "allow" managers to go over budget. They get written up, too. Thier payroll budget is a complete joke, except in new store set-ups and grand openings. They have ample payroll budget for the first few weeks after opening. My husband and I sadi many, many times that they needed to rename the stores to Forget Your Family Dollar or something like that because it seemed that they expected the managers to put the job before family. Now, we were lucky and we had an AWESOME DM for most of our employment with Family Dollar and he really helped us out and frankly, my husband was one of the managers that was allowed to bend some of the company policies, which helped a lot. It was always conditional on his store being ran right. We bent the policies such as... no family at work and no one working off the clock (me being the person working off the clock). He did not have the payroll he needed for truck day, so I would always go to the store on truck days and I would help unload the truck and help stock the shelves and actually see my husband, even though at that point I was not an employee of Family Dollar. I was a Stay-At-Home Mom. When our son was born, I would take him to the store to see his Daddy. There was a point in time when my husband had a pathetic assistant who always had a reason to call in on my husband's day off and he went many weeks without his day off. When we still had the first DM, it all worked out because he would send a manager or assistant manager from another store to cover his store for him to have his day off, but after the DM's switched, things got REALLY bad, no days off, I wasn't even allowed to shop in the store, and when our son was hospitalized for pneumonia, the new DM demanded my husband come to work anyway, even though the assistant was available that day, and so, my husband put in his 2 weeks notice!
