FCNB - Spiegel Credit Card Co. ripoff Excessive late charges, no person to discuss charges with... Old Bethpage New York

Sometime last year, I stopped receiving bills from Spiegel. I began to get concerned around the usual due date - and I went ahead and sent them a check for the normal amount. the check was cashed - no problem. But it wasn't even appled to my account. I tried to reach someone - got the runaround about who to call. Eventually I was able to track down the credit processing co. that took over - I sent them my payment - 2 weeks before it was due. Once again - a late charge. 35$ too - This happened 3 times - so I took all 3 of the cancelled checks in and had them read by the bank - they were all cashed well before the due dates...I then made copies of these and even had my bank submit something in writing. I put all of their mistakes on paper and sent them a copy - with my "threat", which was "A copy of this request has been sent to the California and New York Attorney Generals". I received a response from them 2 weeks later - since I had sent the letter with signature confirmation, they responded fairly quick. My account was adjusted for 2 of the late charges - but the 3rd one was "too far in the past". Needless to say, I haven't forgotten...

For anyone trying to go after these losers, I suggest sending everything signature confirmation mail, making carbon copies of all correspondence, and documenting ALL transactions as thouroughly as possible.

AND - if anyone is going to file a lawsuit - keep us all informed!!!!
