We were members of Equivest Vacation Club having 1400 pts. which we had paid over $7000 for several years ago. We never booked any vacations through Equivest; however, we booked numerous vacations through Interval International with our pts. and never had any problems whatsoever. In Oct. 2007, an agent of Festiva contacted us and advised us that they had bought out Equivest, it was no longer in existence; and if we wanted to continue with our vacation pts. we would need to convert to Festiva. That we would need to purchase an additional 1000 pts. at a cost of 2990 in order to continue to book our vacations and to take longer and better trips. We purchased the additional 1000 pts and have been making pymts. on this purchase since with a balance due of 1600. In May, 2008 I booked a trip to Disney World through Interval International just as I always had. A one bdrm at Disney's Saratoga Springs for 1100 pts. I contacted Festiva in July to find out how to bank my remaining 300 pts. and was told that I had booked the vacation with my Equivest pts and would now have to pay dues to Equivest and to Festiva; that I could not bank my remaining 300 pts. and was spoken to in an extremely rude and aggressive manner. I told him I did not see how I could possibly have booked with Equivest when we had been told it no longer existed and had been bought out by them. He said that I had and I would receive a bill for double dues. This month I contacted them to find out why I could not search destinations as I had been able to in the past with Interval International and was told that I would have to call them and book my pts with Interval through them. I asked how I could book the pts. when I did not yet know where I wanted to go or how many pts. it would take. The girl I was speaking with was extremely rude and rattled off some numbers which made no sense. She said it would take 3000 pts to book either a 1 or 2 bdrm. I told her that was ridiculous when I had been able to book a 1 bdrm in May for 1100 pts. She said I could basically take it or leave it. After talking with three other people, one who clearly didn't have a clue what she was doing, one who could only say "I'm sorry that's the way it is"; and one, who would be better served working as a bullying collection agent, I got absolutely no where and when I asked for someone higher up than the last person I was told I would have to write a letter, that I could not speak to her on the phone. The end result is that I have filed as many complaints as possible with the BBB, the Attorney General for NC, the Chamber of Commerce, the Secretary of State and the FTC Consumer Protection Division and I believe that the NC Attorney General's Office should take on Festiva for the people as the Missouri Attorney General's Office did. I would very much like to be rid of Festiva, have my money back and be a member of Equivest again, just so I could book my vacations through Interval as I have in the past. If anyone has a resolution to this I would really like to know what it is, or if anyone is interested in filing a class action suit against this company I would like to know.
