I have also been ripped off by First Data/Express MPS. They take $25 a month from my account. I don't even have a credit card machine! I turned the lease of my machine over to another party. But the companies are telling me that it's two seperate entities and in order to cancel my merchant account as well, I will have to pay $500! Definitely will be closing my bank account.

Closing your bank account won't work

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, August 09, 2008

Unfortunately, closing your bank account won't help you, but it will make things worse. You have an ACH agreement with First Data most likely that allows them electronic access to your account contractually. Your bank is not able to mediate your contract between you and another party. If you close your account, one of two things will happen... the ACH will still hit and send your closed account into overdraft, or the ACH will reject which will cause additional penalties and fees and send you into collections... lowering your credit score maybe just enough to not allow you to be approved by another processor. Or First Data might report your account, your personal social security and your fed tax ID to MATCH which is the equivalent of ChexSystems.

If you signed a contract with First Data and your termination fee is only $500, you're getting off cheap... I've heard of termination fees being over $1000. Do yourself a favor and honor your contract and find a more reputable processing company... and this time read the contract and understand everything that will happen if you cancel your service and/or your lease.
