FirstEnergy Solutions will use any means possible to force you to use them as your electric supplier, even downright fraud.  When I chose them to supply power a couple of years ago because they were aggressively promoting their low rates, I made sure that I would not be roped into any contract that I could not get out of.  There were no cancellation fees at the time I originally signed up so that if I found a better rate later, I could switch.  I would NEVER choose a company that would force a cancellation fee!

Last week I again researched electric providers after receiving promotional materials.  I found another company with better rates than I was paying and again, no cancellation fee if I was to switch.  Within a couple of days after switching, I received an e-mail from FirstEnergy offering me a $10 VISA gift card and a somewhat lower rate if I stayed with them now that my contract was coming to an end.  The reduced rate was still higher than the new company I switched to.  I wasn't biting. Soooo...

A couple of days later, I received a nastier e-mail threatening a cancellation fee if I did not immediately re-sign with FirstEnergy.  I started looking for my original paperwork proving that I never agreed to such a ridiculously lopsided agreement.  There was never such a huge difference in supplier rates that I would lock myself into two years (which I believe they also made up) with a company that would not allow me to accept a better option without me PAYING THEM!! 

Today they called me on the phone. I was planning to call them but in their desperation to trap every customer they can into their greedy tentacles, they beat me to it.  The first woman was rude, insisted that they always had cancellation fees (which they didn't for my introductory offer), basically called me a liar and tried to get me to tell her which provider I was planning on using.  When I said I wanted to discuss the made-up fee, she transferred me to someone who hung up on me when I tried to explain the situation.

These people are sneaky.  They are greedy.  And they totally will do anything to keep customers.  They must hate the fact that we utility customers now have choices.  So whatever you do, DON'T choose FIRSTENERGY SOLUTIONS!!
