Postmarked letter from P.B. Meter 6714849 dated November 14, 2005 from zipcode 48237, Asset Acceptance LLC, P.O. Box 2036, Warren, MI 48090-2036 welcoming me as a new customer and that First National Bank of Omaha has been purchased by Asset Acceptance LLC.

I have never had an account with the original account # on the letter and I do not owe anyone $507.28. It says that it is the first notice and that I should notify John Beck, Debt Collector, Asset Acceptance LLC, Phone: Toll Free 800-781-4401 Ext. 1761. I tried calling, but did not get through.

So, I decided to check this out on the computer when I found all these other complaints regarding First National Bank of Omaha and Asset Acceptance LLC. The notice was written to my P.O. Box. I am extremely concerned regarding my credit reports and how this should be handled.

Asset Acceptance Communication

AUTHOR: Louise - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 22, 2005

This morning I contacted Asset Acceptance LLC and spoke to them regarding this issue. They claim I owe money for a Visa from 1987!! This is totally bogus and I told them that I want them to send me paperwork regarding this supposed debt. They tried to connect me to someone else and I just said that I want proof of this debt. They said they will send me all the information. I was flabbergasted that they were trying to collect something from 1987 which I am sure does not even belong to me! How do these people get away with doing this? There should be some law to stop these bogus companies.

This was my update for today. If I receive anymore information I will update this again.

What you should do

I believe your first step should be to send a certified letter asking for validation of this debt.

Something similar happened to me recently, after I sent the letter, I never heard back from them. I think they have 30 days to respond, and they didn't, because they knew the debt was bogus.
