My wife and I signed a contract with Firstline on May 29, 2007.
The sales rep said that our house was attractive and that we would receive a discount if we would be a model home for Firstline. Firstline installed equipment at our house over the next 3 days.
As consideration, we wrote a check for $99.00. This was called an "activation fee."
In the contract, we agreed to a monthly automatic withdrawal from our bank in the amount of $44.99.
The sales rep said that the first month (June) would not be billed.
The first automatic withdrawal occurred on 7/30, in the amount of $99.00, and was made by Firstline.
No previous or subsequent automatic withdrawals by either Firstline or SAI are evident on our bank statements.
Invoices have come by mail from SAI. One came later than the due date.
Calls to service reps at SAI have not produced reasonable efforts by the reps to rationalize billing inconsistencies.
My wife has called SAI 3 times, and has sent copies of canceled checks at the request of the service rep.
Service reps have given misleading information and incorrect phone numbers.
On one of those occasions, the service rep refused to give his name when my wife asked to be referred to his manager. This service rep also refused to refer the call to his manager.
No reply has been made to my wife after those occasions on which she supplied requested additional information (copies of checks, bank statements, etc.).
On February 12, I disabled the alarm system by removing power from the console and from the sensors.
I did this as a good faith effort so that I would not receive any benefit from the system until the billing dispute was resolved.
I have received no notification from SAI that the system was not functioning properly.
I reconciled our payments to SAI's invoices and emailed the reconciliation to an SAI service rep, along with the other complaints listed here. Her reply was that, because we have had the service for 9 months, we should have paid SAI an amount equal to 9 x $44.99. Other complaints were not addressed in her response.
I believe that SAI is collecting residual income provided by the contract, but is not supplying the associated benefits. The following list of complaints should be sufficient to invalidate the contract. It should also prompt censure of SAI so that other consumers can avoid its unfair practices.

1) Firstline has not honored the contract
a) Automatic withdrawal clause was not implemented according to the contract
b) Consideration (Activation fee) was not applied to the account
c) Unauthorized withdrawal of $99.00 on 7/30
d) The first month (June) was apparently billed, in spite of the sales rep's assurance that it would not be billed.
2) There is misfeasance in SAI's servicing of our account
a) Automatic withdrawal clause was not implemented according to the contract
b) Double billing in the month of November
c) Misapplication of individual payments on succeeding bills
d) Malfunctioning equipment has not been corrected.
e) Application of $3.14 tax has been inconsistent.
f) Monthly fee changed from $44.99 to $48.13 without notification.
3) SAI has engaged in unfair business practices
a) Service reps from SAI have used threatening language to force acceptance of current billing
b) Firstline service reps have referred us to SAI, SAI service reps have referred us to Firstline
c) Firstline sold the contract to SAI, but SAI has not acknowledged the assignment of liablility from Firstline
d) We were notified of the sale via email on 2/14, in the midst of the current dispute.
e) Since the sale of the contract to SAI, there has been no clear option for servicing non-functioning equipment
